What to take out of a mana base for fetches?

I'm curious to hear what kinds of lands you would replace with fetch lands in the formats that they are legal in. Do you take out a Mountain for a Scalding Tarn in modern? What about an Island for Polluted Delta in Legacy/Vintage? What about EDH?

I've never played with fetches so I'm curious to hear more experienced players opinions.

(I know this seems kind of obvious, but I just want some clarification)

I never played em either but assuming I had them, I'd replace basics with fetches. Obviously remember to keep fetchable lands as you have fetches.

I'm not entirely sure about Legacy, but in modern it's best to have a mixture of shocks/fetches/basics, along with your utility lands. Fetches are obviously good for thinning your deck and tutoring for any color you need (in conjunction with shocks), but you don't want your manabase to ping you to death. Plus, you don't want to be overly susceptible to cards like Path to Exile or else your opponent will get a huge leg up on you. Poke through some Top 8 modern decks to see specific ratios.
