Why does no one play this?

Deck Help forum

For a few years and a few blocks, Goblins have reigned the kingdom of speedy decks. But as their time seems to be coming to an end, a new fast deck type is upon us.

WEREWOLVES, The New Speedsters

When played right, werewolves can be very fast and very deadly. With the new and improved werewolf deck i am running now, my opponents are at 5 or less life by turn 4 in 60% of the games. At first, i underestimated and . One of the best abilities it has is that it pumps your wolves, and having all these abilities jampacked into one card, plus intimidate makes this one of the best cards in standard wolves.

Utility cards like and hit hard and ramp for pump spells and , and you have 4 available mana. Your opponent takes one, so you tap 2 is way overrated, my deck runs amazing without any 30$ cards.

It is my opinion that RG Werewolves is played far too much. And is almost worth its price tag, but nonetheless one of the best cards in standard.

It's a cool deck and fast but loses hilariously post sideboard. It has no decent removal except Brimstone VolleyMTG Card: Brimstone Volley and IncinerateMTG Card: Incinerate which interfere with how the deck plays. It's a good deck and it deserves the attention it's been getting (not much).

Arc TrailMTG Card: Arc Trail is a mediocre card that doesn't support Werewolves as a deck.

I have a buddy who runs a werewolf deck, and it's mean. It's fast, and usually and just get too annoying to be able to stop. The problem it isn't played that much is because of sideboards. After getting slaughtered by your deck round one, most people will come back with powerful sideboard solutions.

Ratchet BombMTG Card: Ratchet Bomb kills your werewolves dead. Straight up. Day of JudgmentMTG Card: Day of Judgment makes it particularly hard for werewolf decks to build up steam again. Arc TrailMTG Card: Arc Trail can kill two werewolfs in one spell, even if they're buffed. And any token decks (which is heavy in my meta, particularly) will not even shrug to throw some chump blockers in the way.

Not that it's a bad deck structure - it is actually very good and usually can win a game very quickly just because of MoonmistMTG Card: Moonmist, but when it comes to actually going up to some of the more standard-pro tier deck structures, it loses out too easily.

@jfletch I mean when playing against a deck such as this. Cheap removal/Day of JudgmentMTG Card: Day of Judgment just kills it soo easily.

@birdseed........... so basically your saying creatures are an invalid card strategy since removal gets rid of them.......

No BlueFrog. If you would lower your defenses and take some constructed criticism here instead of trying to ramrod your personal favorite deck down our throats while screaming "LIKE IT!" you would understand what people are trying to tell you.....

A werewolf's converted mana cost on its night side is 0. Ratchet BombMTG Card: Ratchet Bomb is already insanely popular in sideboards due to the abundance of white/* token decks that are being played. Essentially Ratchet BombMTG Card: Ratchet Bomb works as a Day of JudgmentMTG Card: Day of Judgment for 2 colorless mana. Compact this huge hurdle with the fact that your deck doesn't really have much to do after your board gets wiped except for sit dead in the water and you have a fundamental flaw with the deck.

Post rotation in october AFTER Ratchet BombMTG Card: Ratchet Bomb is not an option anymore werewolf decks will become a LOT more powerful. But maybe you should still work on a way to fix the Day of JudgmentMTG Card: Day of Judgment issue? Anyways in closing I just wanted to let you know that you came in here asking for people's opinions. That doesn't mean you're going to like what they have to say. On the flip side of the coin it doesn't matter how much you dislike it... it doesn't make it any less true. Try to learn from the information being provided to you here instead of fighting it Tooth and NailMTG Card: Tooth and Nail.

Soooo the conclusion that we just came to is "It's a cool deck and fast but loses hilariously post sideboard". Wow, deja vu.

@birdseed - My bad. I agree with your point now.

complete werewolf decks are too unreliable. If you dont draw a moonmist, your opponent can effectively control your side of the field.

I'm not sure I agree with you eddyrj. Sometimes its extremely inconvenient having to cast a spell to stop a transform.. or having to blow 2 spells to force one... Its a double edged sword for sure but I don't think you're giving credit where credit is due. It depends greatly on the matchup and whether or not that particular deck can afford to toss away spells.

If you throw FlingMTG Card: Fling in there that should give it a nice one two punch shouldn't it

I made a werewolf deck and I have to say you are right sir especiallly when you have Howlpack Alpha  Flip who is just a token factory no to mention the fact that he pumps up everyone along with Immerwolf and add in a Fling or two for a quick game ending one two punch that comes from out of nowhere and leaves you opponent sitting there dumbfounded
