Would Ash Zealot shine here?

I've been looking at a lot of Legacy RDW decklists and I noticed that Keldon Marauders takes up the 2-drop spot in a large number of lists.

I can see how it would be powerful if its allowed to swing, but I was wondering if perhaps Ash Zealot would just fit better in the slot. It seems like a more aggressive card to me. Is that just because I've never actually seen the Marauders in action? Do I just not appreciate their true power?

Legacy Red for reference.

The one advantage I see for Keldon Marauders is that regardless of what your opponents board-state is like, it's virtually always going to deal them 2 damage. It also plays better with Hellspark Elemental than Ash Zealot .

The first point is quite valid. It's important to note that Unearth doesn't count as casting, so it is unaffected by Ash Zealot 's effect.

I like Ash Zealot in the standard environment, but it seems kind of iffy outside of it. Fact is that a lot of the time that red is featured in a deck that is modern or earlier it's used basically as flat burn. Keldon Marauders is a guaranteed two damage for two with the possibility of seven, that's pretty effective damage for a cmc of two. I myself actually didn't favor Keldon Marauders over Hell's Thunder and Hellspark Elemental when building a modern red deck wins because I really got a deep enjoyment out of pairing them with Brimstone Volley and it's morbid effect.

Wait, how does keldon deal 7? 1 for entering, 1 for leaving and 3 for attacking, that's 5. Is there some legacy card like Fling that I'm missing here?

Sorry, I was thinking about a Teetering Peaks trigger.

Ah okay, I'm not familiar with legacy so I wouldn't know if there was a card like peaks that was commonly used in RDW that'd up the damage by 2.
