A Story and a Question

First, the Story:

I am at Target tonight looking for sunblock. I pass through the aisle with the TCG product. I see a flash of blue from behind a Heroes vs. Monsters duel deck. Could it be...

It was.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have, under my possession, a sealed Mind Seize commander deck that was $29.99 at the local Target. I'm pumped, and you should be too.

Here's the question:

What do I do with the damn thing?

Do I a) Keep it sealed until it shoots up in price even more, which might not happen since Wizards has been churning these Mind Seize decks out as fast as people buy them.

b) Open it up, yielding joy and wonderful cards, and presenting the opportunity for a new Commander deck, this one Grixis.

I honestly have no idea, though my insides are churning at the thought of NOT OPENING SEALED MAGIC PRODUCT, the most fun activity in the world.

That is a cool find. As much as it hurts your hands and guts, keep it sealed. If it does anything like what the first commander decks did, then you could turn around and sell it for a lot more. That being said, you could sell it right now and get a %200 profit.

miracleHat: Yeah, it is the right move. Thing is, the first Commander decks were a limited print run, and these are not. Also, Wizards is now including two Mind Seize decks in a set when selling to retailers.

Oh, i did not know that. I just know that i got my Kaalia of the Vast edh deck for $30. Was just at game con, all the sudden it was selling for $180. So much for a hated commander if people are paying that much for her... Overall, i think that people will get enough of their Nekusar, the Mindrazer deck and will stop buying. Wizards will not get a profit from printing them anymore and tada, you get an increase in price.

miracleHat: Yeah, you're definitely right. Waiting is the correct option. It's just sitting right there...close enough to reach out and rip off the cardboard...

Do you know of somebody that you trust that can safeguard it for you? IF you trust them, tell them that it is very precious and keep it in their house out of sight and in around 2 years, i (meaning you cschiller) will come and get it :)

Also, don't forget about the plastic wrapping.

Personally I'd dump it off at my parent's house where I couldn't be tempted while I'm 10 hours away at college. Plus I only get about 2 times a year when I get to come home due to the distance. My parents wouldn't touch it (hopefully), so it should be safe unless they throw it out. Which, knowing their hatred for my cardboard cards, may actually be sort of sketchy...

@GoldGhost012, i feel bad for you that your parents would throw stuff away. I know that my step-brother's dad threw away in a fit of rage a collectors edition of all the alpha duals/p9/name expensive card that is not portal here. My dad though actually took cards from my brother when he wouldn't clean them up. 10 years later, he looks through the garage and finds the p9 of pokemon.

miracleHat: Wow, that sucks. Thanksfully, my parents, whenever my two sisters or I try to sell off our old stashes of Pokemon, remind us that, in a couple of years, they'll be worth a lot more than they are now.

cschiller: 1. Buy a safe. Don't look at the combination. Lock it up. 2. Dig a hole in the backyard. Bury it. 3. Leave a note for your ancestors, detailing a list of clues to find it after a wild goose chase.4. ?????5. Profit

Won't his ancestors have already been dead? Wow, those are some long-lasting ancestors. Hope you got those genes cschiller.

I wonder how much my old Pokemon cards are worth. They're the really old, original kind.

GoldGhost012: Oh yeah. Ancestors is the wrong word. Ummm, heir? Inheritor? Beneficiary? Successor? I give up. - . -

My fear is that all of the sudden, magic the gathering/pokemon/yugioh and whatnot will lose interest and the market will Plummet . All of the sudden, that Underground Sea that you have been holding will be worth $5 and to think that you wanted to sell it for a fortune! Either way, keep playing and the cards will retain value.

GoldGhost012: You should see if they have the First edition insignia. I believe all first run cards are like 3$+, even the common ones. Ours are 2nd-3rd, and are only like 25-75 cents each, but still, we have tons.

Ah yes, my descendants. I don't know if I'd trust them with my sealed product, though we shall see how they treat my cards...

I swear, if they keep my Magic cards in an old dusty garage somewhere...

If that happens miracleHat, then you should probably start investing in MTGO.

miracleHat: I'm pretty sure, even if MtG does die as a game, Underground Sea will still be 300$+. It is a constant in life, just like death and taxes.
