Deathrite Shaman is a legacy and vintage staple, deemed too powerful for use in modern. Currently, it's price rests at ~$10; however, other cards which are potent in eternal formats tend to steadily rise overtime as fewer of them are printed. Is this the best time to invest in Deathrite, or will he be readily available at a reasonable price for as long as we need him?
Buy them all now and then enjoy the investment because Deathrite Shaman especially will never see another reprint in my opinion. He was eh in standard and banned from modern but still makes the cut in other formats. He has no where to go but up

DRS is amazing in all the eternal formats (except Vintage, but fuck Vintage) because he does so much for so little. Decay is certain to be a Snapcaster Mage type of card, and maybe more so because it's basically a 4x in any deck that runs its colors.

All the eternal formats except for half of them, that's funny.

Legacy and Commander are eternal, so all of them except a third of them.

You can't sanction an EDH tournament, so it doesn't fall under DCI tournament formats (Eternal being one of them).
To my knowledge the only eternal formats are Vintage and Legacy.

Well, EDH does allow every card printed barring the ban list just like the sanctioned formats. It is also another way to play, which makes it a "format" in my dictionary. Same with Noble, Archenemy, and Pauper.

EDH falls under "constructed" according to WOTC, their site only lists Vintage and Legacy as eternal.

Well, I'm still going to think it's an eternal format. :P Screw the rules, I have my own thoughts on the matter.

You know what else is banned in Modern?
- Stoneforge Mystic
- Jace, the Mind Sculptor
- Glimpse of Nature
- Chrome Mox
- Sensei's Divining Top
- Umezawa's Jitte
- Dark Depths
What do these have in common? They're all $10+ and played less than Deathrite Shaman . Hell, most of these go in decks with Deathrite Shaman . Something being banned in Modern really doesn't do much to its price if it's a staple in other formats.

Thing is, DRS has a good chance to being unbanned in Modern. So buy them now before they unban him and he doubles in price over night.

He doesnt have a good chance of being unbanned, at least for a few years

Wizards have shown a willingness to unban cards in Modern, using the banlist (to some extent) as a way to shake up the format a little rather than as a definitive list of the overpowered cards. With this in mind, cards on the modern banlist may turn out to be a worthwhile investment.

As an aside -- I believe that Golgari Grave-Troll will be unbanned in the future. With Dread Return also on the banlist, the dredge deck is not nearly so dangerous and with such plentiful graveyard hate such as Rest in Peace , Tormod's Crypt , Leyline of the Void and options that are regularly maindecked like Scavenging Ooze and Relic of Progenitus , graveyard-based decks are, arguably, not even viable.

Of course, I may have completely misjudged the power of the dredge deck.

Same case with Abrupt Decay and other RTR cards used in formats beyond standard.
