I could pickup a playset for around $10-12. Is it worth it to speculate a price gain?

Speculating a price increase on a seven mana creature!?!? Idk I can't really give a good answer.

My guess is that the price of foils will go up but not the normals

Personally, I don't see Angel of Serenity getting a whole lot of play-time in eternal formats. They're just too fast to support a seven-drop like that...

But at the same time in insta-reanimator, Griselbrand actually happens. It's not that the format(s) in question are too fast, it's that you have a 5/6 flier with a lackluster ability. I bet if you wait until it cycles out -IF- you're that patient, that's when you pick up a playset. The longer you can go until it cycles, the better the prices will be.

If you're talking about while it's still in Standard, I would probably wait until spoilers for JOU start. Same could probably be said for M15. Each new set that gets added to a block increases your card pool so, of course, you have a greater chance the card will all of a sudden be relevant(/fotm).

If the card isn't currently making a splash in any of the eternal formats, I can't imagine it would all of a sudden unless someone breaks it or a not-yet-released card interacts with it in a crazy way.

One of the first rules of effective speculating is that you must have a reasonable expectation that your investments will appreciate in value. You can't just buy a card and hope for the best.

I don't see Angel of Serenity going anywhere right now. Eternal decks don't play it. EDH sometimes uses it. The demand is pretty low.

Even if you thought it was a good speculation, I don't see why you would grab them now. It's not like it's going to increase in price between now and rotation.

If you're willing to pick them up as a super-long term hold, since most splashy angels that see a small amount of play + casual appeal will slowly raise, you can probably grab them for $2 a piece or cheaper around rotation.

But there's probably better places to put your speculation money though.
