Atarka's Command Price

So I just bought a bunch of these at 2.59 ($3.89) each. Pretty happy with the price.

What do people think about this card for the future? I'm expecting it to go up in price quite a bit, but wondering what people's thoughts are.

It will likely see some Modern play in burn and maybe Scapeshift, also we will see some Standard play for sure. I'm guessing that it will go to $5.

I'm thinking between $5-10. Probably coser to the 6 end.

It will be a bulk rare. Red already has Skullcrack which is much better due to its one color requirement instead of two. Standard burn has much better options in mono-red burn spells.

It won't see play in Scapeshift people will try it but it won't stick. The 3 damage to target player is decent but not need as Lightning Bolt and Electrolyze already do that and are more versatile. The putting a land from your hand is nice but not needed, the two drops are Sakura-Tribe Elder, Snapcaster Mage, Remand. I agree with ZaphodBeblebrox with it being a bulk rare

Color requirement is really meaningless for modern, even less for burn. Fetch a Stomping Ground and you're fine. Not to mention with enough mana you can use the command to drop a land for searing blaze. It can definitely be copies 5-8 of Skullcrack.

Also you are forgetting the 4th mode that pumps up your creatures. If the lifegain isn't relevant, you can cast this, prowess trigger on your Monastery Swiftspear, then give it +1/+1 and deal 3 to them. 4 damage for 2 mana, and 5 damage if you include prowess, is pretty good. Instant speed is just the icing on the cake

It's strictly better than Skullcrack in any burn deck that already splashes green for Destructive Revelry...... Which is most of them. It'll be a $5-10 card.

Mono red burn hasn't been mono red for along time now.

From mtgGoldfish:"The first option is a poor way to deal with an opponent's creature with lifelink, the second option doesn't affect the board, and the third option is a fairly weak way to ramp. The fourth option is the redeeming factor since the effect pumps your entire team and could lead to favorable outcomes while you're attacking or blocking. For a card that has six combined modes, this card isn't that versatile or powerful, and I could easily see this not making my main deck even if I'm already playing Red-Green."

Personally, I like this card; so i don't altogether agree with the above. I still would be hesitant to invest in it.

Ah yes... mtgGoldfish articles and their experts. They also once ran an article that said Modern was dying. I wouldn't put much stock in what those people say about a card.

But we know that burn plays Skullcrack and we know that burn plays Destructive Revelry. It therefore follows that this is playable because in a deck with green it does exactly what Skullcrack does and more.

I just grabbed a bunch as they were going cheap (my lgs is selling them at 8 quid a pop on preorder!)

I think it works in a lot of strategy's. Channel Fireball did a good article on the card regarding it's potential. I don't see it shooting up or anything, but I think it will go up in value and at least help me trade for other standard stuff.

Plus it's liable to be run in Modern Zoo deck. 3 to the face plus turning all your guys into 3/3's or 4/4's on turn 3 could be a big thing I think.

It's playable but will most likely be a .$50 to $2 max card. Supply will greatly outnumber the demand for a couple years. Could go over $2 after it has rotated and sees play in Modern.

I feel that you got a nice deal already. A couple sites I know are trusted and shop on are pre selling for almost $6 each...

It depends on a lot of things. The 3 damage is the reliably good mode, so this will only be played in burn decks. The cool mode (and I have no idea how good this mode is) is the putting a land into play - 3 damage, play Mountain, play Bolt sounds sexy. Could be good in decks that play Simian Spirit Guide to ramp out an early Koth or some such.

The other thing is how much Dragons of Tarkir will be opened. If anything near as much Dragons is opened as Khans, this card won't be worth much. I think the spring set is usually opened less though.

I feel that in the short term, many people will try it out in modern burn as well as standard GR ramp decks. I see it initially in the ~$5 range, with potential to drop in price if it doesn't perform to expectations in professional play, but I for one think this card is the next biggest thing in Modern burn, as it allows for additional T3 goldfish win combinations using fewer cards in hand when combined with Monastery Swiftspear. I'll be picking up my playset early and using it well, regardless of whether it drops or increases in price. I think if you can get rid of them quick at a higher price, then you've just made yourself a nice little profit.

It's effectively a one-mana bolt to the face. (since you get another land in play. If you cast it T2, you can cast that AND Lightning Bolt in the same turn).

The fact that it's a burn spell that ISN'T strictly worse than Bolt is saying something.

Needle Drop Burn copy in place of what? I don't see how it really fits in.

APPLE01DOJ, I'd take out the Lightning Helix.

The pump is why this card is playable. Lava Spike is not worth a card in deck other than Burn, especially not in Standard. That is the bonus ability to me. With cards like Hordeling Outburst, Goblin Rabblemaster, Zurgo Bellstriker, and Monastery Swiftspear you can do 6 damage on turn 2 and 9-11 on 4. Rabblemaster now beats through Courser of Kruphix and trades with Siege Rhino. Pump is also the only way to gain any card advantage out of the options.
