Auriok Champion Price

Auriok Champion

Why is this card $40?

It's a 2 of in some Soul Sisters builds. As far as I know that's it. Where else does this card see play, and does anyone think it can actually sustain a $40 price tag?

I think it might be due to the art, personally. Same with Liliana of the Veil.

That can't be a serious assessment! A card looks like a Victoria's Secret as so it claims a huge price tag? I mean...Liliana is practically a 4 of everywhere she is played at least.

Atony1400 Hahaha, usually you're supposed to add /s for sarcasm. If you weren't kidding, well, that's ridiculous. Art has nothing to do with prices. lol

It spiked awhile back but because of this BW Tokens and it was a buyout. The fact that there's no real demand doesn't matter because it's a 1 print rare with limited supply.

Lili's price tag is due to how much play she sees, which is a lot. Price inflation due to the art on these cards is highly minimal.

Some decks side Auriok Champion against burn too (though Kor Firewalker is almost always better there), and she's great in BW and Mardu tokens, so Soul Sisters isn't the only deck keeping her price up. Plus she is a rare from an old and not very opened set.

DrFunk27, isn't it ironic how high priced cards have decent art on them? I feel that they're may be a connection, but I know it's unlikely.

I did not know tokens used them. Interesting. I know they are great against but , but I almost feel like ForgeTender is a better side card against that. I used to have 2 in a BW token list and decided to take them out. Should have held onto them I think.

Kor Firewalker, that's the one I meant. ForgeTender...face palm

Well...Burrenton Forge-Tender is also good against burn.

Atony1400 Sorry but that's just not that case at all. Liliana is a one print mythic rare that's a 3-4 of in Modern and Legacy. That's why she is $100. Champion is from a very low printed set that is a 4 of in BW tokens. It also has casual appeal. As I said, Champion was a buyout and the price just can't correct itself.

Is what happened to Auriok what's happening to Serra Ascendant right now? It has risen from $12 to just under $19?

Atony1400 Serra Ascendant has always had a price tag above $10. It's always played as a 4 of in Marty Life. The deck seems to be gaining popularity again, although it's still not great. But yes, it has one printing in a core set which is pretty limited.

Martyr Life and Soul Sisters have seen some recent top 8s, more so Martyr than SS. A lot of the cards have seen a spike since then. Serra Ascendant for sure. Ranger of Eos I think. Archangel of Thune went up. Was Ghostly Prison always $12ish? Seems most of these are in the same boat...single runs (except prison) in sets unopened in large quantity.

Atony1400, I think the original printings of Force of Will and Tarmogoyf would like to prove you wrong. The strength of the card and the art are not intrinsically linked to one another; it just so happens that Lili and Auriok Champion are both attractive women that happen to be powerful cards.

DrFunk27,

Auriok Champion is not a 4 of in tokens. Many lists choose not to run her at all, and her inclusion can be largely meta dependent. Just thought I'd clarify a little.
