Best Box to Buy

Hey,

I'm thinking about going over to my LGS to buy a box or two of a standard set, but I'm not sure if I should get KTK, FRF, or DTK.

What's the best one to buy now that has cards worth money that YOU think will retain value over time?

Trust me, don't buy a box for value. Buy it because you like the cards in the set because it is very likely that you don't pull enough value to even pay for the box. With that being said I would go for ktk because of fetchlands being more common that in frf and rhino. Also sorin might hold his value later on.

KTK from a money-wise standpoint is probably the best option. It has more staples than the other sets.

Khans of Tarkir. Definitely. DTK is pretty high grade crap. Sure it has some cool casual and commander stuff, but that is about the extent of it. Fate Reforged is ok. Not bad. Some cool stuff.

The fetches man. Think of the fetches.

Honestly, don't buy boxes for the investment. I bought 3 boxes of KTK and pulled a total of 8 fetches. It's just not worth it. Also, beyond the fetches, there aren't really any other chase cards in the set. You're better off just buying singles.

Investment standpoint: Don't. Just save your money. I am slightly opposed to one of the other comments, because I happen to think the "crap" in DTK is infinitely better than that garbage in FRF. FRF has Ugin. That's it. If you're deadset on buying a standard booster box or, God forbid, multiple, my suggestion is: take a deep breath, count to ten, and then go invest that money in the stock market. If you're trying to buy Magic product for an investment, you're wasting your time.

If you must buy a box, do Khans. The chance for fetches will help the value.

DTK is so meh. There's like 11-13 5-10$ rares, and the most expensive card in the set is 35$. If value, I suggest KTK for fetches, rhino, and walkers, or FRF for Ugin, mentor, and tasigur.

I would avoid buying a box unless it's during a release time. Usually you can buy a box of the newest set, sell off a few of the good pulls that have hyped prices, and keep the rest with little net loss. That time has past for DTK, but Origins and MM15 are in a few months, and BFZ at the end of the year :)

Save your money and preorder MM15. Much more likely to get some value.

Or as everyone else said, buy singles.

If you were to buy one of those boxes consider this, Do you want fetchlands? Only KTK and FRF have them. Do you want to sell the cards or just keep them? If you want to sell get the DTK one because prices are still high while the others prices have settled. Lastly, Do you want to build a deck or just open some packs? Your $100 would be better spent on a deck rather than a booster box if you would want the deck.

word to the wise do not buy box's unless u get them by the case and on the cheap. i do well buying cases, u will get the mythic foils and other really rare cards people only dream about pulling. if u want to make your money on those box's u will need to grind and sell LOTS of cards also, and hold and save some for years to make it worth while. unless u have a good amount of cash and time your best just buying modern single's.
