Birthing Pod Spike -Answered

I was looking at buying a Birthing Pod for $12 the other day, but then overnight, the price spiked up to $30, putting it out of my budget. I was mostly curious as to how and why it happened, and if it is a frequent occurrence for cards to double in value instantly like that.
It is an older card so price should increase and there is a chance that it fits nice into a new commander deck and that will fuel a price spike.

I found the answer. I guess a big trader in Spain bought out a TON of them. Thanks for the help!

Hard bet they'd unban the 1 green draw per creature cast this turn before B-Pod

I really don't think they would unban it. It's a card that will always dominate a meta. Any deck that runs green, has creatures, and has ever heard of a combo would run it. It would have to be re-banned shortly thereafter.

Legacy can abuse it with Conspicuous Snoop now, fetching it and a Goblin Matron is an easy win.
Setting up other combos was way easier than before, with a strong 2-drop untapper in Corridor Monitor and a strong 4 drop in Felidar Guardian. Both go well with Kiki and Pod now!

If you want a card buy it,, in general the longer you wait the more it will be, unless you get an unexpected reprint then it will dip briefly but other than that generally pull the trigger on good cards, there's many a card I wish I would have bought at $5 and now aren't worth it at $20 or $30

If it doesn't get unbanned the price will drop back down when the buyer floods the market with the copies they bought.

Owning a card asap is typically your best bet. When you own the card, price jumps benefit you instead of hindering you. I picked up a foil 7th Edition Equilibrium when it was worth $20... now it's the most expensive card I own and is over 15x its original value. Gilded Drake I traded a fnm foil Fatal Push for straight across when they were both $20.

You know tho just throwing this out there I've never been crazy about the pod I had a buddy that would build decks with a 3 cmc limit on all cards so the pod worked well for him, but I prefer to be a little crazier lol, I'm a much bigger fan of the Fauna Shaman and the newer Fiend Artisan I havnt actually got my hands on the latter but am excited to slot it in my meren deck.... anywho just saying

I can definitely see the value of Fauna Shaman and Fiend Artisan, I prefer the Birthing Pod because the shaman only puts the card into your hand, rather than the battlefield, and my deck reanimates well enough that the artisan is rarely larger than 2/2. That, and the mana cost of the ability is lower on Birthing Pod.

Check recent tournaments, chances are a birthing pod deck won or at least top 8'd an event.
This is generally the most likely cause for a card to suddenly spike.
