Buying (another) box of something tonight... thinking RtR unless someone can talk me into one of the other Standard sets being more valuable (keep in mind that Theros prices are volatile right now and most will drop).

Yes I'd go with RTR. It holds the most value as it has multiple staples in other formats as well, and a lot of of value cards simply from standard. Jace, Architect of Thought Sphinx's Revelation Deathrite Shaman Desecration Demon and all the shocks are 10+ dollar cards and will hold value, not to mention a lot of 4-7 dollar rares dispersed through out the set. So basically, yes RTR for value.

Even though Theros's prices are everywhere right now what you could do is buy a box of that and use anything you get from it for trade because people are still looking for a lot of theros and Just saw. Hero's Downfall is climbing to like 15$

Theros is probably the best to get if you want to trade for what you need, like mentioned before a lot of people are still looking for theros stuff to go with their rtr stuff, not so much the other way around yet. Also the baby fat that is pre release hype prices have already hit the one month point, now the prices are fluctuating to follow the standard meta.

it all depends on what your planning to do with the cards you open, and what formats you play. If your looking for cards of necessity and they're in RTR then that's the obvious choice, as you can get some things your looking for and still have some value to trade. If your purely buying a box to get things for immediate trade bait then Theros is probably the way to go as you'll get more immediate value from them because being a new set there are less in circulation and there are people looking to acquire all of the hype. The prices from RTR have stabilized so what you see is what they're worth, and even though there are quite a few cards that are staples in other formats, it's not easy to trade for standard playable cards when your dealing with modern players.

with return to ravnica it is easily one of the better sets to buy into. i would include theros in there not because its new but because the cards in the set are great

I would say Innistrad or Dark Ascension, as they have very valuable rares (namely things like Falkenrath Aristocrat and Stromkirk Noble ), but also Return to Ravnica or Gatecrash would work well. Theros' prices are too much on flux right now to establish a basis of permanent trade fodder, but would work great for immediate trades, as spacecoyote1313 mentioned, because everyone wants something from Theros, like Xenagos, The Reveler .

atm, I've only been getting Theros, I have what I'm needing from other sets, and what I pull that I don't need I can move pretty fast. I've had 3 Dragons and sold them within 5 minutes of pulling them. Then I realized how awesome they were and got one for a Heliod.
