Buying a booster box: MM 2015 vs MM 2017

So I'm looking to buy one of these boxes from my LGS for a few reasons.

  1. I hear A LOT of good things about these boxes, despite their higher price.

  2. I'm not particularly interested in any singles at the moment so a booster box seems like a lot of fun.

  3. i can draft.

Now i've done some research, and seen a lot of the pulls from both boxes but I'm really not sure which is more worth getting, I'm hoping to get some hype pulls, but I'm also looking to get a good overall value of pulls. Which box would you recommend?

MM17 for sure. Fetches, Damnation, Liliana, among other things makes the EV insane.

Norboro,
Looking at the actual numbers, it's pretty much a wash:

MM 2017

MM 2015

Your mileage, of course, may vary :-)

clayperce and Dredge4life so i just called my LGS and they said 2017 is actually going for about $250 right now, and 2015 for $220. With that would you still say 2017? or definitely 2015

Keep in mind with clay's post above that the higher price on MM15 is due to the fact that it's no longer in print and now effectively harder to find in packs/boxes.

I would say MM17 is definitely the best MM set to date and will give you infinitely more value per pack. Is an excellent draft set as well.

Norboro,
Me? I'd buy singles :-D

Seriously though, Idk. From everything I hear, MM2017 is a REALLY fun to draft so I'd probably lean that way. And I really like buying boxes at my LGS (partly for supporting the locals, but mostly because I've had sealed product badly damaged in shipping). Maybe try the "TCGplayer claims market price is $X ... is there any chance you can down?" approach next time you're in?

Good luck!

Definitely MM17. It's a better draft set (I think), and more of the value is at lower rarities, so you're less likely to open a bunch of feel bad packs

If going to draft, MM17. It was the first set I bought boxes for in a long time, I got 8 boxes, 4 of them got more value, 2 about even, and 1 little less, and 1 a lot less than I paid. Overall I got more than I paid, which is unusual for box openings in my experience.

Other people's boxes I seen opened were about the same experience (about 75% we're at least close in value.)

I'd go with 17 cuz of the fetch lands but I'd look at the sets and find out which one has more cards you can use both are really good sets you'll be good either way you go

I'd take the mm17 because there are a lot of great cards at rare. You have tarmogoyf in mm15 but that's a mythic and the lot of value has to come from the rares or it's a complete lottery. I've opened 3 displays of mm17 and it's really cool what you can get out of these boxes. I got them for much less than the price you found though.

I wouldn't buy them directly in a shop because there's usually a big difference to the price you can get online. With standard sets it's usually 75 compared to 90 Euro in the shop and the masters sets have a price difference of like 30 or 40 euro
