Buying a Modern Masters box...

So here's what's up. My birthday is coming up and want to get into modern more. I looked through the list of modern masters cards and was like "this set is awesome!" Sooo, as a birthday present to myself, I want to get a modern master's box. Is it worth it? I know it's all based off of luck but in those 24 packs, is there a good chance of me getting some awesome stuff?
Side note, I am going to open the box (seems obvious but wanted to make sure we all knew).
If you're talking about a strict monetary win/loss, you'll probably lose. MM is just too overpriced. Yeah, you could pull a goyf or bob and come out ahead, but its not particularly likely. If you're looking to draft, however, its a great set. And it will definitely add to your collection and give you some modern stuff to use as trade bait. Just don't be upset if you lose money.

Piggybacking off what kmcree said, if you have 7 friends that you trust with your cards, you could just invite them to free MM draft with your box. Everyone has fun for a few hours, and you get to keep all the cards in the end. It's win for them and win-win for you.
Just make sure to count your rares and foils at the end of the draft and make sure there aren't any suspiciously missing cards.

My buddy actually did exactly that, and we all had a great time. I'm planning on buying a box and doing the same once I can scrounge up the money.

I drafted a box with just 3 friends, but that way we got to do 2 back to back drafts which was a lot of fun.
It's a bad value to buy if you're looking to make money or come out ahead on cards though. I opened 5 boxes since the set came out and never once opened a goyf. Only two Bobs in all of that too, and one SoFaI.

Thanks for all the input guys! And sorry about that Epochalyptik, wasn't really sure where this would go.

You should never expect to make money off this. Remember why you are really buying this, either to draft or crack packs. That's what it is about.

You probably will break around even, but if you plan on drafting the box its definitely worth it as some people above stated. It's one of the best sets to draft.

If you can find a box for $360 thats the point id just open it for value, after that try and have fun with it. Dont over look the value of things like finks path and foils. Bought 6 packs for fun, $25 in playable un/commons, foil knight of the reliquady, foil clique, hell aether vials are up tk $25. Above $360 have fun with the draft amd the loss is entertainment value

By the way, if you do get a box, and you do get a Sword of Fire and Ice , I'll trade for it. Just putting that out there.

All of the big money in the set is from mythic rares, and you can reasonably expect to get about 3 of them from the box.
That being said, whether you make your money back depends a lot on whether your mythics turn out to be Dark Confidant or Ryusei, the Falling Star . I opened a box of MM and my best card was Sarkhan Vol . I was not pleased.
Although, if you get a Tarmogoyf , you pretty much automatically come out ahead. Your rares and even some of your uncommons will help get you there as well, of course.
Altogether, you'll probably come out about even on the box. Ish. The value you lose in getting cards you don't care about will have to be weighed against the intrinsic value of opening a full box of cards.
Monetarily, your best bet is almost always to simply buy the singles you need for a deck.
