why is it that Damnation is 30+ dollars, yet Wrath of God is only around 5

Damnation was printed in 1 set. Wrath of God has had 15+ reprints.

Wrath of God has been printed many times, and has a near-functional reprint in Day of Judgment , plus white typically gets more board wipes in general than any other color.

Damnation has been printed once, and is one of the few straight-up board wipes black gets.

That's pretty much it.

Damnation was ONLY printed the Planar Chaos set. It looks like Wrath of God was printed in every set from Alpha to the 10th edition, plus Portal, the Battle Royale box set, and Commander. Mass destruction is not something black typically has access to. This is a "planeshifted" card, meaning from a flavor standpoint, it's from a sort of "alternate multiverse" where black was the color with effects like this. At any rate, it's so expensive because it's basically the only card that does what it does in that color, and there are a limited number of them.

Because Damnation is black. Other field wipe effects for black are very expensive or involve -1/-1 counters, so having a 4 mana, destroy all creatures effect was pretty darn good.

The real reason is because Damnation has better artwork. It looks awesome!

The set was also less popular.

Damnation is an EDH staple that was printed in one set, and nothing is particularly similar to it in that color, in terms of effect and cost. For example, Toxic Deluge is effective in some similar circumstances but requires life payment and has trouble dealing with a 30/30 Lord of Extinction or the like. It is the type of board wipe that black typically has access to.

Wrath of God is an EDH staple printed in more than a dozen sets, and white has several nearly equivalent cards with similar costs from nearly every set printed. Examples: Day of Judgment , Kirtar's Wrath , Austere Command , so on and so forth.
