Cavern of Souls spiking

As a filthy casual player, I have no idea where this is coming from.

Just curious if I should parlay my 3x caverns into one of my big wants now, or if it will keep going up.

My gut says it's a temporary thing.

It should stay at about $40. Modern Elves forced it up, but it will always be playable in modern, legacy, and especially EDH. Don't expect it to get cheaper any time soon.

it's not a sure thing either way, unfortunately.

it has a lot of casual appeal and can be played in eternal formats in tribal decks.

the current spike is likely because of the bloom-titan list in modern. the deck has become "a thing" and interest in the deck is still on the rise. there is potential for demand to continue to rise, or the deck could be hated out of tier one, or it could become so good that wizards decides to ban something. unfortunately modern is a crapshoot when it comes to predicting economic values of cards, as it's hard to tell what is good but not too good.

there's no real reason for it to go down until a reprint, it's played in modern decks including amulet bloom and fish, as well as commander.

if you're using them or intending to it's probably safer to keep them, if you're not going to you could wait until they cap out then trade them off and wait for a reprint.

it's a pretty reprintable card though, it uses no block mechanics and references no speific tribes, anywhere there's a heavy tribal theme it's possible to reprint. it isn't too powerful in standard either (that I remember, I wasn't too into innistrad/rav standard). So I don't like it as a long-term investment card.

I'll trade mine away if they hit $50, hopefully netting myself 2 FoWs or something. I like them in my casual/modern Sliver deck, but time will only tell if it gets reprinted/the price drops back to reasonable levels.

Cavern of Souls also sees lots of Legacy play as well. It's out of print and in high demand...

Or is it another buyout?

Exactly aeons . . . thing is I love the card. I don't need it for my casual cheese Ally deck, but I like it.

Wesley See played a copy of cavern of souls in UR twin to a GP top 8 so now everyone wants to try cavern.
