I don't know how many others have noticed, but i just noticed that Craterhoof Behemoth has recently skyrocketed in price. He used to sit around 4 dollars in december, come january he's a 14 dollar card. Is there any reason for this, some modern deck now using him i'm unaware of?
Ps. This would happen right when i was thinking of picking up a couple copies to start building When Santa Attacks :/

DrFunk27 The thing is though, neither of those are top tier decks. I would even argue to say neither are tier 1.5 or 2 (although i don't know why, elves are almost as mean as merfolk). On http://www.mtgtop8.com/format?f=MO I don't see a single deck list of either of those decks, so even though they might be played i don't see why they would spike so if neither have top 8'd a recent tourney or something.

He's also really popular in commander. I see him all the time. He's ability just ends an opponent if you've got the right board state. I've got a friend who uses Tooth and Nail into him and Aurelia, the Warleader for an insane finisher.

It's a mythic from a set that wasn't opened that much. A TON of players play Elves in Legacy and there is a pretty decent group that play Mono Green in Modern. You have to remember, just because a deck isn't tier 1 doesn't mean people don't play it. Especially in Legacy it's not uncommon for one player to only play one deck for his entire career.

TheDevicer I use him in my Trostani, Selesnya's Voice EDH deck and he's an insane finisher with tokens. But i think commander what has kept him around 4 dollars, but i still don't understand the spike in price. I don't know man, it's puzzling me.

Let's not forget Craterhoof Behemoth is amazing with Avenger of Zendikar .

Dalektable, Preach. It is particular interaction that may or may not be the finisher in my Momir Vig, Simic Visionary EDH deck.

One of our lgs has 8 real legacy players, 3 play elves, modern MGD is a good deck imo and really fun to play, plus EDH

Craterhoof is a legacy staple as well as an edh staple. It's also played in bad modern decks.

I get that elves is a thing in legacy, but why the sudden price spike? The reason he has been steadily a 4-5 dollar card is because of it being an EDH "staple", a key finisher in elves and MGD. But, those factors don't explain the sudden hype.

Pretty much all of the eternal/modern cards spiked really high recently. Almost every single modern staple just jumped in price after the pro tour.

It's great how Magic has suddenly grown so popular in the past couple years, but as far as economics goes it's pretty scary.

Interesting find... and it not be in some deck that won somewhere. Maybe it was SCG setting a price that everyone just came to emulate

just cause people missed this, Craterhoof Behemoth and Prossh, Skyraider of Kher are bff's with Avenger of Zendikar and their lesser known member of the quartet Ogre Battledriver
But outside of this, yeah, elves (both modern and legacy) love him. That's pretty much it, outside of various edh decks at mtgtop8
Anyways, at mtgtop8, you can go to search and on the lower left hand corner of the page there is a text box that lets you search for decks with the cards you listed.

can you imagine blinking Craterhoof Behemoth in like a Roon of the Hidden Realm edh deck,1 or 2 times a turn

Not particularly sure but I have seen him used as a nice finisher for elves.
