Dark petition potential

So I pulled a foil Dark Petition during my prerelease this weekend (not a promo flat out pulled a foil from a pack if that matters) and playing with it in my deck I found it to be really filthy I mean it's almost a Demonic Tutor if you rip it T5 or later off the top since spell mastery basically hands you 3 mana back on the investment. When I checked the value of a regular petition it's only going for 2.50 if that on preorders. Is that low or is it reasonable to believe that both regular and foil should be going up?

It's an EDH card, I think, so it will likely rise in the long run. It's not a Demonic Tutor, but it's a budget alternative. The foil copy should hold value since EDH players like their foils.

Thanks. I figured as much. just that I found myself able to play literally anything I did tutor as soon is I tutored for it since even on T5 it usually gave me an extra 3 B in the pool to play whatever I searched for so I figured it was a pretty solid card.

Cards not very good. Probably EDH playable but won't see play other than that. It's more of a better diabloic tutor than a worse demonic tutor.

Won't be any higher priced than Diabolic Tutor. Couple bucks max.

Fair enough thanks for the input all. Didn't mean to directly compare to demonic tutor but I couldn't think of a different comparison though diabolic is so much worse than this.

No, they have pretty comparable power levels. Spell Mastery is conditional and easy to disrupt in constructed formats. It also pressures you into playing the tutored card if you trigger Spell Mastery instead of waiting for a safer or more optimal time. Not to mention only those without the stronger tutors will want this, placing it in line with the more budget alternatives.

Anybody think this may be good in legacy storm as a replacement or extra for Infernal Tutor? TES and ANT have the mana capabilities for this to work, but I don't know if it'd work in reality.

seems much worse than infernal tutor. You need LED so there's no reason to play dark petition.

It will be a 6 dollar tome in a couple of years max but the foul could hit 20 25 due to EDH wizards

I agree with the potential to have it as the 5th tutor in ANT instead of Grim Tutor for more budget builds. Seeing as you already need at least 7 mana for Tendrils of Agony plus Grim Tutor this switch seems more than reasonable.

(I'm bad at this speculation stuff, but here's my thought)
It's not Demonic Tutor. Black EDH decks that want a powerful tutor will just used Demonic over this. There are things like Vampiric Tutor and Imperial Seal for the very competitive ones. It's pretty slow for Standard and far too slow for Modern since you have to wait for T5 to even think about casting it.
The foil may turn out to be worth a little bit since it's only home is somewhat casual EDH, and some EDH players love their foils. I wouldn't expect a big spike though.
