ChrisH There's a very solid Goblin deck that is seeing more play thanks to Reckless Bushwhacker. Goblin Piledriver is an extremely good pickup right now. Can see him going $10+.

March 9, 2016 4:27 p.m.

Bovine073 says... #2

Piledriver was at least 15 a month or two ago, if my memory serves me right. DrFunk27 yeah I don't wanna sell mine though because its for my bogles.

Budget bogles is going to be hard now, 36$ for paths, 36$ for Razorverge, AND 28$ for Brushland.

March 10, 2016 1:44 a.m.

Servo_Token says... #3

Piledriver has been like $2 since his reprinting in origins.

March 10, 2016 1:47 a.m.

Bovine073 says... #4

Yeah I meant before that. That's not really 1 or 2 months is it xD

March 10, 2016 1:48 a.m.

DrFunk27 says... #5

DevoidMage It has, but Origins was widely unopened and Piledriver was expensive before his reprint. Now that he is Modern legal, in a "budget" deck, that is easily tier 1.5, I can only see him going up. In fact, he is already on the rise.

March 10, 2016 12:37 p.m.

sylvannos says... #6

I definitely think picking up Goblin Piledrivers while they're cheap is a solid decision. We're one good goblin away from him shooting up in price. All it takes is a Goblin Matron reprint, Goblin Recruiter unbanning, or a new card that's Goblin Guide/Goblin Lackey-tier in power for Goblins to do well in Modern.

Awakening up 719% on TCGPlayer. Noticed a buyout a couple of days ago, not sure what's up with it.

Ruffigan it's another replacement for Prophet of Kruphix. Seedborn Muse also skyrocketed due to this card being banned.

No it hasn't. Shows perfectly normal prices on echo, tcg, scg and stocks.

March 14, 2016 2:45 a.m.

CChaos says... #11

I didn't pay attention to the set before. Legends copy went up while 4th and 5th editions remain the same.

March 14, 2016 2:50 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #12

Apologies, didn't look at other sets. Two reasons for that then. 93/94 format and/or extremely limited Legends print run.

March 14, 2016 3:17 a.m.

I don't think Legion Loyalist has been mentioned yet. It has spiked pretty hard recently

March 14, 2016 6:12 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #14

Thanks to the 8-Whack Goblins deck, if I'm not mistaken.

March 14, 2016 7:43 p.m.

DrFunk27 says... #15

GoldGhost012 Yup. To think this was a $1 rare years ago. lol

March 14, 2016 7:51 p.m.

For some reason that I cannot discern, Scout's Warning has jumped up 600%, going from .80 to over $6 each. Any reason for the buyout? I really wanted one for my EDH deck too....

March 15, 2016 7:49 a.m.

DrFunk27 says... #17

GeminiSpartanX Future Sight was relatively small print run. There aren't many can trips in white and this lets you flash creatures. It wasn't played in any decks over the weekend or MTGO, so it seems like a buyout of an older card at this point. That's a huge jump though.

March 15, 2016 11:09 a.m.

I still can't fathom why speculators buy certain cards out that see almost no play. It's like they jack up the prices for fun then wallow in a bathtub of the bulk rares they just bought for enjoyment.

March 15, 2016 1:59 p.m.

sylvannos says... #19

@GeminiSpartanX: My guess is that people don't want to miss out on playable cards that end up spiking later due to new sets or tech. For example, Lantern of Insight went from being a 50 cent card to a $5 piece of a very powerful deck. Likewise, Worship went from being relatively unplayable to one of the strongest sideboard cards versus Eldrazi, not to mention the hexproof deck.

Scout's Warning is in that speculation boat where people see a card that could be powerful, it just needs to find the right home. So, they buy it out at $1, instead of waiting for it to hit $20.

March 15, 2016 4:30 p.m.

Kala says... #20

Zedruu the Greathearted almost quintupled in price recently... Why?

March 15, 2016 7:21 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #21

All the original commander cards are in limited supply and unlikely to be reprinted. This makes them pretty safe buy-out targets.

March 15, 2016 9:10 p.m.

sylvannos- True, but in both cases with Lantern and Worship, the deck came before the buyout. It just seems crazy to buyout a card baselessly. (I'm really just QQ-ing since I wanted a copy before the spike)

Is Oubliette a recent change, or am I just slow?

March 19, 2016 12:06 p.m.

lemmingllama says... #24

@brokendwarf It spiked about two weeks ago, although it's been constantly rising for years.

March 19, 2016 12:11 p.m.

amazingdan says... #25

It was about $14 around an hour ago. Idk what the hell happened

March 19, 2016 12:13 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #26

It's a really good card. Black doesn't naturally get those effects. Extremely rare. Could also have been part of an infinite combo none of us see. Or even 93/94.

March 19, 2016 1:41 p.m.

sirbar says... #27

It is used in pauper.

March 19, 2016 2:34 p.m.

amazingdan says... #28

But what caused it to spike so hard? Was there some Pauper announcement or is it a buyout for whatever reason?

March 19, 2016 3:01 p.m.

sirbar says... #29

I'm not sure. I don't follow pauper all that well but it could very well just be a buyout targeting one of the best decks in the format.

March 19, 2016 3:11 p.m.

Ashes to Ashes kind of does the same thing. It doesn't bring them back either, though it does hit you for 5 life.

Horror Tribal is actually going to be a thing???

Better stock up on Nighthowlers.

March 19, 2016 6:46 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #33

amazingdan, someone bought it out that is why. All the 93/94 cards are being bought out. It's just an added bonus that this gets used in other formats and is extremely rare.

EverythingIsK, no, its because of Thing in the Ice and Torpor Orb for modern. Just naturally fits into a Grixis delver shell.

The new SOI dual lands were previewed. They rely on having a basic land type revealed from your hand in order to come into play untapped:

Forboding Ruins

...and we haven't seen enemy-colored lands yet for this cycle.

What does this mean?

  • Tango lands are going to be incredibly important since you can reveal them to have an untapped dual land.
  • The BFZ manlands are likely the best enemy-colored dual lands in the format post-rotation.

In other words, start buying up as many Cinder Glades, Hissing Quagmires, Lumbering Falls, Prairie Streams, et al that you can get your hands on. It's going to be a really easy flip come rotation. Not to mention, they're all Modern playable. With an Eldrazi ban, we could go back to seeing more conventional Magic with decks like Jund, U/W Control, etc. that rely on manlands and duals.

March 21, 2016 4:50 p.m.

I consider these lands standard-playable only. I think they're worse than checklands, and won't retain much long-term value. I do agree that the BFZ lands would be good ones to pick up now though.

However, this is the wrong forum to show off the new cards or speculate. This forum is mostly for notification of buyouts and price spikes sylvannos.

March 22, 2016 7:15 a.m. Edited.

I think a secondary point of his post, GeminiSpartanX, is that the Tango lands/manlands could potentially see a price spike as a result of these new dual lands. So while it is technically in the wrong place, you could stretch it and make it legit. :P

March 22, 2016 12:09 p.m.

"potentially see a price spike" = speculation. See rule 1 ;P

March 22, 2016 1:21 p.m.

deltacobra says... #42

I can't see tango lands going to crazy cause of these. Yes it great to show a tango and have that land untapped but are u gonna have the 2 basics in play to have your tango land come into play untapped. I see the new lands being played over the tango lands since all it requires is to show a land in your hand where a tango land doesn't be able to hit untapped till turn 3

March 22, 2016 3:38 p.m.

sylvannos says... #43

@GeminiSpartanX: I'm not speculating on this...I'm being bold enough to call it a fact. All of the lands in BFZ and OGW are starting to climb. They're up ~$0.10 from last week (according to MtG Stocks), where they all flatlined or were on the decline.

Today's Interest has all of the tango lands listed at +2~4%. The market is about to experience a sudden spike. It's not a "potential price spike," it's an inevitable price spike that comes with every rotation when dual lands cycle out. It's happened in every Standard format for the past 15 years of Magic, with a few exceptions (KTK fetches were one of them).

@deltacobra: You don't play the new lands over tango lands...you play them with the tango lands because that's all you'll have in Standard for duals that come into play untapped. If you want to play R/B, for example, your deck will start with 4 Smoldering Marsh and 4 Foreboding Ruins. Your only other choice is Dingus Egg.

The same is true with enemy-color manlands. Your only other option for dual lands will be the Stone Quarry. Needle Spires is just better.

March 22, 2016 8:06 p.m.

Monsmtg says... #44

I expect a price spike on Dingus Egg. It's seeing a huge amount of play in all formats.

March 22, 2016 8:07 p.m.

Monsmtg says... #45

Just realized it not the spec thread, my bad

March 22, 2016 8:08 p.m.

deltacobra says... #46

For one I'm not saying u don't run them together what I'm saying is your playing 8 land slots for the tango and the soi lands and all I'm saying is that it great to play the soi turn 1 but that does not count as a basic land so your looking at a turn 4 play before u can play a untapped tango land for any deck a tapped land is painful

March 22, 2016 8:24 p.m.

Any reason why Urabrask the Hidden has like quadrupled in price since like a month ago?

March 27, 2016 11:26 p.m.

EverythingIsK says... #48

Probably another random buy out? There are so many other options you could play in comparison to him in all the formats he can be played in.

March 28, 2016 1:15 a.m.

sylvannos says... #49

Seems like a strong card to deal with Reality Smasher, would be my guess. 5 mana 4/4 that gives your Tarmogoyfs and Olivia Voldaren haste? AND stops stupid eldrazi from killing you out of nowhere?

Now I'm hoping I still have mine lol...

March 28, 2016 1:20 a.m.

DrFunk27 says... #50

Eldrazi kills you before T5 so probably not. Likely a casual buyout. Most of the Praetors are $10+
