Why the spike of most printings of Adarkar Wastes?
February 21, 2016 12:01 p.m.
My guess is that most pain lands that were not reprinted in Origins, etc. that make colors modern eldrazi cares about will see an increase of some sort. Maybe that's what's going on there?

Karplusan Forest has shot up too. Maybe because of Eldrazi/an "affordable" substitute for Grove of the Burnwillows?
February 21, 2016 1:08 p.m.
Arboria shot up as well due to a buyout. It resides at $40. Stupid jerk forcing $35 more out of me. If I didn't have a coupon and a Vendilion Clique, I never would've acquired it (It's how I knew of the buyout).
February 21, 2016 7:54 p.m.
Ghostly Prison was just bought out on TCG. 16 copies left that are selling at $17+ for LP/NM. Nearly all Foils are gone, 4 left, and 1 promo left is $30. I called this and I'm going to make bank off it.

City of Traitors just skyrocketed, curse you no Reserve List reprints.

Fuck. And I was (foolishly) hoping it'd stay relatively low.

TGF Puca Trade, got mine at $50.
Also, pro tip, if you're at an SCG Event, keep an eye on MTGGoldfish. I made like $100 because I bought stuff that they had marked lower than it was before a recent spike. Bought like 5 Ghostly Prisons for $9 each, got a Mox Diamond for $37, should have gotten a city as well.

VampireArmy, You should have bought those City of Traitors when you had the chance.

I knew that a week ago. Circumstances are circumstances. I'm broke. Expect the rest of eldrazi shops to explode in price soon by the way.
Every modern player who owns enough of the deck is going to want to move it to legacy at one point or another

Scorched Ruins is a billion dollars now because of Eldrazi. Null Rod is $50 for some reason. Arboria is like $23 now for some reason. Relic Barrier has like a 10,000% increase to $5 now for whatever reason too, but just the old version.
Just seems like magic is getting expensive for the sake of it being expensive.
February 23, 2016 5:42 p.m.
GoldGhost012 says... #14
How is Scorched Ruins because of Eldrazi? I don't see any Legacy lists including it. Looks more like a buyout to me.
February 23, 2016 5:48 p.m. Edited.
DevoidMage Only one seller is selling Scorched Ruins for $100. Can still be bought for $19.
February 23, 2016 5:49 p.m.
Servo_Token says... #16
But here's the thing, it was a 2 dollar card for like 10 years, and now it's $20. Seems still like a spike.
And I can only assume that it's because of eldrazi. It makes four colorless, and eldrazi have taken over the game, therefore...
Didn't actually research anything though, just reporting prices as I see them.
February 23, 2016 5:51 p.m.
GoldGhost012 says... #17
I'm pretty sure Scorched Ruins is a really bad card in a format where Wasteland is popular.
February 23, 2016 5:52 p.m.
Woohoo holding onto my Null Rod, though I don't see it staying there for too long.
February 23, 2016 5:52 p.m. Edited.
DevoidMage Yeah, it's still a spike. Just unsure what's going on. I think Vendors are creating artificial prices on a lot of reserve list cards. No way there is real demand for the card.

Magmatic Force has also skyrocketed in price. No real reason why as far as I can tell.
February 23, 2016 5:58 p.m.
Scorched Ruins at $100? I'm celebrating like a fan girl who was kissed by Justin Beiber. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As someone who plays Scorched Ruins in EDH, this pleases me.
February 24, 2016 2:45 a.m.
Big Game Hunter is currently at ~$4.20. That's absurd.

BGH rose because of Reality Smasher. It's legit tech. Use removal spell on your smasher, discard bgh, madness trigger kill your Thought-Knot Seer. Sick value
February 28, 2016 10:39 p.m.
Mind = Blown. Modern has more funky interactions than I expected. TY for that.
February 28, 2016 10:40 p.m.
nayrash5 Except you still have to 2-1 yourself....yes it works, but it's not good. Also, you can use the Reality Smasher ability to abuse Loxodon Smiter and Wilt-Leaf Liege
February 28, 2016 11:19 p.m.
the.beanpole says... #28
DrFunk27, it is actually slightly better than a 2 for 2, since you spend 2 cards to kill 2 cards, and you get a 1/1 out of the deal. It is even better for you if the second creature that you kill is TKS.
Wilt-Leaf/Smiter are good tech too, but don't immediately remove a second threat.
February 29, 2016 8:26 a.m.
deltacobra says... #29
Doesn't Reality Smasher state a spell opponent controls. And with Thought-knot killing allows your opponent to draw a card am I missing something here
February 29, 2016 8:45 a.m.
I believe they are talking about using this against eldrazi.
February 29, 2016 10:36 a.m.
Petrified Field is played in Vintage dredge so it can get back Bazaar of Baghdad after a Wasteland/Strip Mine.
It's the go-to budget deck because Black Lotus is really sub-par in the deck, leaving Bazaar of Baghdad as the most expensive piece. You can build the rest of it for less than the price of its Legacy equivalent since Lion's Eye Diamond is also really bad. People have been cutting out Black Lotus in favor of Leyline of the Void, Mental Misstep, Mindbreak Trap, or another Dread Return target (Griselbrand, Iona, Shield of Emeria, Dragonlord Kolaghan, and so on).

But it does seem like a good way for Eldrazi decks to get their Eye of Ugin and Eldrazi Temples back after a Wasteland. I don't follow Legacy closely, so that could be wrong, but it produces colorless and provides recursion, so it seems good

Are you looking at the old editions? It is still under 2 bucks I think from revised forward.
March 3, 2016 1:39 p.m.
Didgeridooda says... #39
Unlimited has been going up since there is that format that plays with unlimited, and before. Revised is not legal in it.

Has anyone mentioned Risen Executioner yet?? Up like 300%??

likely because of the new relentless dead card. definitely didnt see that one coming.

I'm not too sure if this was mentioned before but the card Three Visits has hit a spike recently. It is now currently $45 from it's usual $30
March 7, 2016 10:05 a.m.
Oh my goodness the hurt-lands Brushland, in particular. Bought a playset for a buck and a bit each, now it's sitting at 7.35ish.
March 9, 2016 2:16 p.m.
@Bovine073: You know, that reminds me...before we had shocklands in the original Ravnica, painlands were $5+ each. I remember when Caves of Koilos was $8, AFTER it had been reprinted in 9th.
I think we've been spoiled a lot in these past few years from City of Guilds forwards. WotC has spoiled us with several consecutive years of dual lands that don't enter into play tapped. Theros was one of the first in a long time (IIRC Shards of Alara was the last time a set before that didn't have any dual lands that came into play untapped under any condition).
March 9, 2016 2:40 p.m.
What is the deal with the slight upticks in Goblins pieces? Piledriver up $2, Loyalist up $5, etc.
Phaetion says... #1
FAMOUSWATERMELON: Great Whale was always a budget substitute for Palinchron. Considering that Palinchron is now $23, while the Whale remains around $6, this rings even more true. Expect the latter to spike more. In fact, I'd say it's a good target for a buyout for that reason.
