Just a few random cards I'm curious about that I'm planning on picking up to collect. Specifically Phyrexian Obliterator and more Vexing Devil's. Since these are long out of standard is it safe to say their price/value will stay steady? The Obliterator is my new favorite card, it's ridiculously powerful. One thing I found odd when searching through the MTG Tracker app was that a Griselbrand is valued at $18 and foil at $78 while Obliterator is $28 with the foil at $48. Is the foil Griselbrand just valued abnormally high? I've noticed a foil versions of certain cards are 4-5x the regular value but most are about twice their regular version, is there any science to that?
The other is Vexing Devil. Imo it's one of the best red one drops available (that I'm aware of ) and a steal at $15 for a foil. While I'm on the topic, what are some of the better red one drops besides Bolts and Swiftspear?
I'm assuming Phyrexian Obliterator and Vexing Devil will be pretty stable considering they've been out of standard for a couple years but does either have a chance to drop or rise in the next few years, why or why not? I'm mainly looking at the foil values for collector purposes as I already have the regular versions I need.

Phyrexian Obliterator should be on the decline. He peaked when Deathrite Shaman was banned and Obliterator Rock was a thing. He should drop a little bit more within the next few weeks. I'd say 20$ is a good price point to pull the trigger at.
Vexing Devil is also on the decline as Monastery Swiftspear is taking his slot in RDW.
Basically... Vexing Devil Goblin Guide Monastery Swiftspear & Grim Lavamancer are the good 1 drops... Eidolon of the Great Revel is worth mention..
If u want burn clones... Shard Volley Rift Bolt Lava Spike

Phyrexian Obliterator has a HUGE casual following though. It's never been a highly played card in modern or legacy even when Obliter-rock was a bigger thing than now. He doesn't get lots of EDH play but he is one of the prime examples of how the casual crowd can drive prices on random cards. With that, it's really hard to gauge where he will end up since he is mainly casual driven.
Vexing Devil hasn't ever been a huge player since usually cards that give an opponent a choice are played by the pros. Like was said above, Swiftspear is a solid choice in his spot, but even after swiftspear was revealed Goblin Guide shot up in price. He might be on the downward spiral too, but if it hasn't happened yet he might just chill at $8-10.

Thanks guys.Ive been back on the scene since Kahns prerelease after a 13 year break so I'm still getting used to all the formats and how everything interacts.
I already picked up foils of the Devil and Obliterator for $12 and $42 but if Obliterator isn't seeing as much play as it was I'll wait to grab a couple regular ones for my deck. So does monastery swiftspear look to hold value post rotation? I have twenty something of them and don't use them. I'm hoping Treasure Cruise follows Gitaxian Probe and rises to $2 or so, I've pulled nearly 60 of them.
I'm thinking of getting out of standard play completely (other than drafting), I'm driving myself nuts worrying about losing value on the card's after they rotate lol.

I mean, that's just part of standard. I like it b/c the meta changes more than any format so you don't have to worry about playing a certain deck for who knows how long like w/ dredge, delver(on any level) or whatever. It's just part of the game. Lower entry cost, higher maintenance cost. Modern/Legacy have higher entry, lower maintenance. That said, I play all 3, but it's not always easy walking in a store to play legacy.

vance3 my advice to u would be to buy shocklands Watery Grave etc. Followed by Thoughtseize from Theros.
Shocks are pretty much a necessity for modern and are at their low point right now. You'll regret not grabbing shocks for at least ur colors down the line.
Thoughtseize is past it's low point but will still be affordable during it's standard life. (the last part holding true for the KTK fetches as well which would be my next recommended buys). However is fairly essential in modern if u wanna play any kind of black deck.
I think Swiftspear will hold long term value, even if it dips lower than it's present value during it's standard life.

generally foil costs are proportional to the age of the format. People in legacy and vintage love foils because their deck will never change and its a small amount when you consider the whole deck. So the more its played in older formats the more the value of foil version go up. Thats my opinion.
As for red 1 drops, Goblin Guide is great in modern.
Cards tend to stay pretty stable unless a new deck comes up that plays them. You wont see huge price jumps on cards out of no where.
