Disallow Long Term Price

One of the cards spoiled for Aether Revolt is Disallow, which is strictly better than Voidslime, and voidslime currently has a TCGplayer market price of about $10. Normally I never pre-order cards because the price almost always drops but if preorders of this are going at about $5 would it be wise to buy a few at this price? the card certainly seems like it could have that kind of long term price or higher. Thoughts?
I don't see Disallow cresting $5 long term. It has a two things going against it in my mind:
- It's only a rare. The list of nonland rares in standard that are currently above $5 based on TCG Market price (which is a good indicator of what you can buy copies at, if nothing else) is short and includes Smuggler's Copter, Selfless Spirit, Spell Queller, Thing in the Ice Flip, and Collective Brutality. Standard sets these days are printed into the ground so intensely that even the most powerful cards are unlikely to hold a high price unless they're mythic.
- Voidslime's price is mostly about scarcity, and Disallow won't have that problem. Neither card does much outside of modern (or standard) as older formats have Stifle for such things, which means any price will be driven by standard and modern demand. Point #1 demonstrates that standard demand for even the most powerful rares does not drive prices to crazy places... even the hated Smuggler's Copter is only hovering around $10. This means any wild price increases from that $5 price point need to be driven by modern. True, Disallow isn't identical to Voidslime and is a slight upgrade, but Voidslime sees next to no play in modern, indicating that it's current price tag of $10 is largely a scarcity issue.

Void slime is so highly priced because it's also the only card with that ability. Now that there's a new guy for EDH players to use, I would imagine that its own price will drop as well.

The hype was the same for Overwhelming Denial when oath cards were spoiled as well. People saw a strictly-better Last Word (which saw play back in the day in standard). However, nobody really uses that card nowadays. While I do think that Disallow has potential, I see it settling at $2-3 at most.

This was the same issue that came up as well with Tendo Ice Bridge and Aether Hub (Though, I guess a bit different, due to rarity of cards). Anyhow, like others said before, scarcity is a thing.

You need to remember that new sets are printed a lot more than older sets like OG ravnica. So voidslimes price not only reflects demand but scarcity as well
