Disrupting Shoal - is it a thing?

I had a guy on Pucatrade forget to mail his card a back in April and when he did send it he tossed in a free Disrupting Shoal as an apology. I figured it was junk and stuffed it in a binder. It's up around $12-13 now. What's the deal with this card? Is it actually played? Should I dump the freebie for points or get 3 more?

I think it sees a little play in Temur Delver, but as far as I know that's it. I only play Modern, so maybe it's used in EDH or something. Personally, I dont see it going up much more as it has already spiked, but if you are going to play with it definitely get 3 more.

Travis Woo did a budget mono blue delver deck called NinjaBearDelver which ran it as a "force of will". Some Temur Delver and merfolk lists ran it.

Speculation is high, as 1 of the shoals is banned. 2 are seeing fringe play. One of the fringe decks was griselshoalbrand

From what I heard the price is doing up because tasigur/delve cards are a thing. Those cards are usually played when you have no mana up and they tapped out to play their Gurmag Angler for one mana. Then you come in with your shoal from no where and counter their spell for the measly price of exiling one card. But primarily I've heard it coined as "the FoW of Modern" because it can be played for "Free".

Thats what I heard. But this comes from a burn player so what I said may partially/entirely wrong or right.

A writer for Modernnexus loves it and I believe has posted results with it in his temur delver deck and/or his days undoing deck.

It's much better as a sideboard card (I've seen the occasional Mono-Blue Tron, Blue Moon, or U/W Control deck with them) so you can deal with decks like Infect and Affinity without getting steamrolled. It also hasn't been reprinted.

Personally, I'd hang on to it. It's definitely no Force of Will or Misdirection, but it's also not a terrible card that will all of a sudden plummet to $1.00. It has nowhere to go but up. A Standard reprint would just see the price go up even further as more people would play it.

Furthermore, all it takes is a format-warping card (see: every Goblin card in Modern with Goblin Piledriver getting a reprint) that is answered by Disrupting Shoal and its price becomes insane.
