Do reprints raise the value of already pricey cards?

I was wondering if my playset of Thoughtseize will go down in price due to it being in Theros standard?

I'm not an expert on this. I'm thinking that the new Thoughseize will sit around $25 and the old ones might drop a few dollars because the card is in circulation again. But it is a different art then the old Thoughseize, so that drop if there is one shouldn't be huge but $2-3 maybe.

That's kind of the name of the game. Most cards will fluctuate in pricing, and honestly, Standard can't really support a card like Thoughtseize that just about every Black deck will want to play at $55.

Well they dropped from $80 to $30 on Star City when they found out about the reprint so there's your answer.

The old editions of Thoughtseize will decline in price because the card is no longer a Lorwyn-exclusive print (and especially because it is a Standard-legal reprint rather than a side release). The original Thoughtseize s will still retain some value by virtue of being of the original printing, but the Theros reprint will cause a drop in price for Lorwyn-edition Thoughtseize s.

As Thoughtseize is integrated into Standard, you can expect the prices of both the original and the reprint to fluctuate a bit.

The only case I know of offhand where a reprint actually made the card more valuable was with Dark Confidant and Tarmogoyf from Modern Masters. As a side-release item, MM didn't increase the supply of either card by a whole lot, but DID raise interest in the Modern format. The increase in demand with a minimal increase in supply actually raised the price of both cards.

Wasn't Modern Masters also a limited release set? Difference being that Theros is going to be sold every day for the next two years or so, making the market much more saturated, where Modern Masters didn't have the same effect.

Exactly. Modern Masters sparked interest in Modern, while not really increasing supply. At least not enough to really count.
