Economic Prospect of Languish vs End Hostilities

So, apparently everyone's talking about how Languish will be meta defining in Standard, and many people are considering picking it up.

But, why is it that End Hostilities doesn't get much talk?

Yes I know, it cost one more mana, but.... this isn't Legacy, where games end in turn 2 or 3 or 4 at most.

Standard usually is a more grind out format, and you can definitely use End Hostilities to clear board up.

So why is End Hostilities so cheap? Or is it really because of that one mana difference?

its because nobody has really played White variations of control since RTR rotated out.

Control has primarily been UB based. White splash has been for literally the dragon lord.

i think it might pick up some steam in the coming few months.

Sure is uninformed opinions in here.

One mana is a lot, even in smaller formats like standard. Also, you can build your deck to make Languish more onesided, whereas End Hostilities will always kill your guys, too.

Crux of Fate is better for the dominant control list (Esper Dragons, which as gnarlicide pointed out is only Esper because of Dragonlord Ojutai) because with Crux they're able wipe the board and still keep their finishers, Dragonlord Ojutai and Silumgar, the Drifting Death. Being able to cast Crux, destroy all non-Dragon creatures (most creatures in Standard aren't Dragons), then attack for 4 and Anticipate is absolutely huge. If they used End Hostilities, then everything would be gone, including their finishers.

Pretty much the same reason for the Abzan Control lists. Languish, if it proves to find a home there, misses all of their big threats: Siege Rhino, Sidisi, Undead Vizier, and Tasigur, the Golden Fang. End Hostilities just straight up destroys them.

Honestly, I almost want to make a true Esper Thopter Control list and run the FNM Gauntlet with it. Lol. The idea of a Hangarback Walker with 6 counters into End Hostilities looks like fun.

For deck construction... Hero's downfall makes black sweepers better, because its just the best removal spell out. White did just get hooked up on creature removal though, hopefully they print a 4 mana white wrath next set.

Monetary wise, neither will make it to modern or legacy, so neither will end up being worth anything. Languish is at its highest price right now. Once more drafts occur and the game day promo is out, I'd expect it to drop to $2 or so.

gnarlicide Plus, you get the sweet "cast Hangarback Walker for 0, force Liliana to flip" move :P
