Ok. So this bad boy was at $28 at my LGS when he first came out. Now he was at $6.16 when I last checked. My friend wants me to trade him, but I keep feeling he will jump up again after a modern tournament. Am I wrong?
Cards are always ridiculously expensive when they first come out, and they (almost) always come way down. Because it's seen modern play, it's creeping back up.
My guess would be a continued slow upward climb, but nothing dramatic. Were it me, I would trade it for other modern cards, but not anything for standard. Unless, of course, it were some outlandish offer.

It's an amazing sideboard card and legacy playable. It's not going to get banned, so I'd say keep it around. If burn does well at the next modern tournament (probably not), it will spike, but we could always see it as an innovation in the maindeck of Jund or something.

He was around .50 at release, my LGS owner bought up $500 worth of them then sold them all for $9 each and bought a full set of the Power Nine with the money.

The card is already seeing some play and i feel like it could be really good against the Jeskai decks that are running tons of 1 mana spells to fill their graveyards for things like Treasure Cruise and Dig Through Time. Suddenly Treasure Cruise doesn't look so good if your taking 8+ damage just trying to fill your graveyard to fuel it, especially against burn decks (where the eidolon sees the most play). I don't know about a big price spike but it definitely could be a card that helps keep those decks in check.

Since it's release in April, Eidolon of the Great Revel has never been $28, unless you're talking about the foil; your LGS was speculating and/or ripping people off.
It has peaked at the following prices, based on different price history sites;
$8.81, TCGPlayer, mid-September
$8.80, mtggoldfish, mid-September
$9.98 fair trade price, mtgprice, mid-October
Although, the card isn't likely to decrease in value, considering it sees no Standard play, only use in Burn decks of non-rotating formats, meaning the demand won't decrease. It's a solid card to hold, but don't expect its appearance in one tournament to suddenly skyrocket the price.

The foil is set at around $28.00, the non-foil peaked around $8.00-9.00 and has settled recently to about $6.00. Eidolon's price has steadily increased in value from $2.75-3 shortly after release, peaked, and dropped to it's current price (prices taken from TCG mid). As previously stated this is due to it being heavily played by the rising popularity of Red Deck Wins/Burn decks in Modern and Legacy. The drop I can attribute to Delver once again rising in popularity, thus RDW/Burn waning a bit.
Seeing as the demand for the card is greater in Eternal formats vs Standard, it's value will most likely stabilize, then gradually increase over time post rotation. This of course is dependant upon demand. See Goblin Guide, Vexing Devil, Abrupt Decay, and Deathrite Shaman for recent examples.
Eidolon of the Great Revel is a staple 2 drop in RDW/Burn and won't be going anywhere anytime soon. If you were to trade for it currently, trade into something like Thoughtseize or other non-rotating format staples.

Single printing from a crappy not opened set & sees non-standard play.
Card is awesome at what it does + it attacks. It'll probably decline for a bit but come next modern season ....well we all saw the Goblin Guide spike.

I would keep it. Staple card in an eternal format with no threat of being banned means it will only go up as time goes on. Could realistically be back up to $25 in 5 years, but who can really see that far ahead?

I know I won't be getting rid of my playset any time soon. I don't think I'd speculate on it right now, but it might be wise to pick up a 2nd set right before the next modern season.

I didn't even know he was that high ever. I've never seen him above $5 until now.
