Why did these guys shoot up so much? I mean, Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Kozilek, Butcher of Truth are $50 now, and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre is $40. I picked these guys up before their jump way back in April, but I haven't been tracking their price. Is there any reason for the jump (a return to Zendikar, or some other combo) that makes them more desirable? It's not like they'll be seeing a reprint, right? Didn't WotC say they'll never do annihilator again? So what gives? Do you see them falling back down, or holding, or (heyhey) going up?

Emrakul sees a lot of play in decks like sneak and show or omni tell, and used to be in some legacy elves deck lists. They are all desirable because they are good cards, some other decks that use them are R/G Ramp, R/G Tron, U/B Tron, etc. They most likely will not see a reprint again, and if they where to, hypothetically speaking, that would most likely make the price of them drop not rise. I see them as holding.

Because if a 15/15 flyer with pro colored spells, cannot be in the graveyard and makes your opponent sac 6 permanents everytime it attacks was less then every casual deck would run him and it would not be fun

yea they are just awesome. any deck that wants to cheat out a creature, those are the best ones to cheat out.

@ChiefBell: depending on the format, all of them see play. Obviously with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn being banned in EDH, hes not run there however the other two are (though EDH doesn't really dictate the price of cardss huge amount).
As TheWanderer123 said, Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is run in Sneak and Tell (LGY), 12 Post (MDN/LGY), Tron (MDN), Some Elf Ball decks (MDN/LGY).
As for Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre, he gets run in 12 Post and tron. Kozilek, Butcher of Truth sees play in 12 post and some tron decks.
On top of that, they are all just really solid cards coming in at Mythic Rare, and other than the FTV Legends, I doubt they'll be reprinted any time soon.

I don't want to be nitpicky but the question was why the prices rose, not why they were high. They've been good cards all along, so why the change?

This guy gets it. Lol thanks for the insight everybody, but Souljacker is right, I want to know why they increased an additional $10-15 starting at the beginning of 2014

Well, they're just going to rise over time. They're rare and they're played and they're not being reprinted. Supply and demand. Demand stays the same but supply isn't going up - prices increase.

Like what @ChiefBell said, supply and demand, also the Zendikar block booster packs are not cheap to open, so not everyone pulls them.

But the Zendikar block boosters also have the fact that fetches are a thing driving the prices up. Last time I saw Zendikar boosters in a shop they were going for $25 a piece (granted that is AUD).

I think it's in the set name but we just interpreted wrongly; Rise of the Eldrazi is about the card prices.

@enpc, Im not saying the reason the Zendikar block boosters are so expensive is because of the eldrazi, I am saying that since the packs are so expensive, less people buy them and less people pull the eldrazi.

@TheWanderer123: That makes sense. The funny thing is the price difference in Rise of the Eldrazi cards. most of the stuff sits under $5 while the high end cards (Linvala, Keeper of Silence, Splinter Twin, etc) are all stupidly expensive.
As for the orginal question, I think I found your answer here. Season 1 dates from legacy sit right in the middle of the price spike.

Well first of all they're all awesome and have a lot of casual value. Secondly, Emrakul actually sees play.
