So, just the other day, I traded for an Elspeth, Sun's Champion. Today I realized that it may have been a mistake.

Will Elspeth go down in value upon the release of the duel decks?

Same with Kiora.

Thanks!

Sry, forgot to put this in the original post.

If they do go down / up, will they ever return to their original value?

Nope! It sees EDH play, and that's it post rotation

The only time elsepth will see a price decrease is when she rotates out. The fact that we are getting more of her doesn't change how good she is. Even then there will always be price differences in each art. If you want proof, here is the current value of both copies of Koth of the Hammer

her value will drop and hover around the $10 mark when she rotates out in a few months.

the foil ones tend to hold their value well. i expect them to be $40 and over after a year post rotation.

Duel deck foils are different from pack foils. DD foils (almost) never have the value that pack foils do

The thing is staples from a block (Theros, in this example) start to go down when the second set of the next block is released (Fate Reforged). It may not be the duel deck causing decreases in price. Rather, people are starting to dump their staples because they're pretty much solidified in their current decks.

So, it may be the duel deck causes a slight decrease. However, any significant drops are due to the nature of rotating formats that have packs still being sold. As Kroto mentioned, Elspeth, Sun's Champion took a significant dip recently.

I'd be wary of trading for any other cards from Theros block unless you need them immediately or they're staples outside of Standard (Thoughtseize, Courser of Kruphix).

When thr DD comes out shell be sub $10, jave was a 4 of and within a month he lost over half his value, expect dd and non foil elspeth to be sub $5 post rotation, jace aot at least sees some 1 of modern play

@mckin Yep, I'm expecting a steady decline from this point until rotation with her in the low single digits come fall.

@sylvannos While that is true, I think you're underestimating the effect of the DD reprint. Her falling price is predominantly a result of the expected influx of supply. Look at Ashiok as a counterexample; that card is rising right now despite being Theros block.
