What happened? SCG price dropped from ~$45 down all the way to ~$15. Did something happen to the Eldrazi decks? Did an actual announcement occur that I missed?
I'm mostly glad I traded mine away a good time ago..

Preparation for the upcoming Banned and Restricted List announcement. Modern Eldrazi decks are guaranteed to have something from the deck banned, and the most likely candidates are Eye of Ugin and/or Eldrazi Temple.
So no, nothing's happened yet. It's just hype. Confirmed hype, but hype nonetheless.

They're trying to diminish their stock before the price plummets. It's not hard to assume that the card isn't actually worth $50 in a land where the Eldrazi deck isn't the most powerful thing to be doing.

The thing is (as far as I know) It hasnt been "Confirmed" yet. So it would just be mere hype, and now that hype spiked the price down to 33% of it's price.

You're right, nothing has been confirmed yet, but the assumptions are real and this just seems like a kind of good business decision.

Aaron Forsythe basically confirmed a ban next B&R announcement (April 4th, I believe).
SCG is probably just selling while they can...

Check out this interview transcript. Aaron Forsythe, Director of R&D, says that they are at Defcon 1 in regards to the Modern format and the Eldrazi decks, and actually says "This is as bad as a format, bad, meaning as ubiquitous as one deck has been in a format in a long, long time, and we were hoping it wouldn't come to this but I think we're gonna have to definitely take some executive action with the next B&R list about this deck."

No one mentioned this yet, but I personally sold a couple copies to SCG when i first realized something was going to get banned, they paid me 33 a piece for them. How many other people like me out there sent in a couple more eye of ugins at this price? they probably have thousands of coupies right now.
Also, right after the ban happens is probably the best time to buy them back if you need them for other purposes

...I gotta say it.
I read the title of the post as "Eye Drop of Ugin"... very different card concept all together.

This has to be recent. My friend sold three to SCG at GPDC for $15 each. That was only a couple days ago
March 17, 2016 11:03 a.m.
Dude, that's nothing. I sold a set of them for a set of Dark Confidants. At the time it was a slightly uneven trade, but now, I'm happy I did it.

Not trying to brag about my friend getting a good price on his eyes.
Just trying to get a sense of the timeline. If they were buying eye for 15 each on Sunday, something major must have happened in the past few days because SCG rarely buys above 50%.
Either their team decided it was definitely eye getting the ban, or they were buying eye at GPDC in the hopes of selling it to a modern Eldrazi player for the side events.
That, or the guy buying made a mistake.

This is one of those stupid buyout and spike issues. The card held around $3-$5 for years, then suddenly shot up to $40 or so around the end of December. It is still trading for 3-5 times what it has traded for during most of its history.

So if Eye of Ugin gets banned, what will happen to the value of other eldrazi cards overall?

Ravolt, that depends on whether or not the Modern Eldrazi deck remains as part of Modern and what form such a deck will take. They could go up, or they could tank. It is hard to say because many of those cards are still in Standard.
March 20, 2016 1:42 a.m.
alanwescoat what about the eldrazi out of standard? (like the original titans)

Ravolt, I am not aware of them being used much in Modern. Even Tron seems to have replaced Emrakul, the Aeons Torn with a newer card. Sorry. I am not an expert on those builds. However, those cards are likely to remain fairly stable, being that they have established value in various formats and various decks.

They (tron) replaced or at least moved emrakul into the side for newlamog. Prices should go down on a few things since people will be offloading pieces.

If Eye of Ugin is banned, the eldrazi deck will be not even half as good as it was before; it is not very good to drop a turn two Eldrazi Mimic, from an Eldrazi Temple.
If Eldrazi Temple is banned, the eldrazi deck will be nearly as good, but easier to beat; you can still drop four Eldrazi Mimics turn one, but they will die easily to cards like Pyroclasm or Electrolyze, and huge Eldrazi beaters like Thought-Knot Seer and Reality Smasher, will be played later, and thus be not as effective.
Ergo, if you see Eye of Ugin banned, then rush to get rid of your eldrazi, but if Eldrazi Temple is banned, then do not worry.

No idea if Eye will get banned or not, all will be confirmed in April.
However, my local shop, one of the biggest ones we have around, is not taking Eldrazi Temple as a trade in be it for cash or store credit.Eye of Ugin went from $75 a pop to $40. While I couldn't get rid of my Temples, I was able to get around $40 each for my playset of Eyes last week when they were still $75. Where I'm sure if I traded them in now, I would maybe get around the $20 mark in cash or that plus %25 if used for store credit. All I can say is I'm happy with my trade-ins since I originally purchased the 4 Eyes for only $3 a piece.

Looks like SCG knows that the eye is getting the axe come April
