Foil Dispel?

So I bought a Dispel a couple weeks ago and it was at $1-$2 and now suddenly they're $10 and the Worldwake Dispel (if memory serves) was $3-$4 and now it's like $15-$20. I could maybe get it if it was just the Worldwake printing (Nostalgia+Time=$$$) but the RTR version as well? Dispel doesn't exactly scream buyout to me but I don't know.

It's seeing increased play in Modern sideboards.

People like their shiny foils.

I mean, it is Legacy playable, so that will always drive up the cost of foils. Not sure about the sudden spike though.

buyout in hype for Origins maybe?

It's becoming used as someone said before in sideboards for modern and legacy. Gurmag Angler had a similar spike recently for it's foil. If a common sees play in one of those formats it's foil price gets stupidly high. Dispel for example is seeing play in grixis controls main and sideboard.

dan8080 You can't play Twin without a Dispel both main and side too.

Answer's simple -- it's seeing play.

So glad I got a Worldwake foil for $2.50 and 2 Ravnica foils for $1 each last year XD

I can see why the foils are going up, but why all of a sudden are they spiking so much?

The rise of Collected Company decks perhaps? It's a fantastic answer.

I had a Dispel laying around and posted it in my trade binder, when I saw that it was 10$ I was shocked. The rise of Collected Company decks seems quite likely seeing as it's an amazing answer. It's also easy to make a bluff with only 1 mana open.

I very very VERY much doubt it has anything to do with Collected Company as the decks that run them often run zero other instants. Making this a terrible card in those matchups.

Yeah idk where the collected company talk for dispel came from but for my grixis control it's there to deal with burn, and other control decks. Dispel ends counter wars quite easily.

Have any other instant speed spells come to the forefront lately the way Collected Company has?

Sleazebag Zero other instant? Using tcgplayers deck search and narrowing the results to top 8 in modern (since that's the format I play) you'll find the following have all been played alongside Collected Company:

,- Feed the Clan

Slight overstatement to drive through my point, which is that to make coco work you need an extremely heavy creature count. Having a dispel in that matchup is bad.

Sleazebag That is true, most CoCo decks only run 9-10 Instants, mine only plays 9. I've been playing a lot of Xmage lately (with my CoCo deck) and I haven't seen a single Dispel get played.
