Foil Griselbrand - bad "investment" ?

I have a trade offer for a foil Griselbrand and I'm curious, do you guys think it'll lose significant value in the long run? $5-$10 isn't a big deal but I don't want to give up other good cards if it's a flaky card.

I think it's probably a good investment. It's a strong reanimator target in non-rotating formats, and despite it's ban in EDH he's still a good card. His price shouldn't fluctuate too too much.

It depends what you're giving up to get it though.

Id go for it. The non foil would probably fluctuate more than the foil. Foils tend to hold their price quite well when they are played in non rotating formats

Cool thanks for the opinions. I'm trading to a small shop that's giving me 80% trade in value so I'm trading 2x Sorin, Solemn Visitor - 1x Bloodstained Mire - 1x Hero's Downfall and a FOIL Clever Impersonator

Trading up in format value is always a good idea.

Yeah, just dropping the sorins now, and the downfall moreso, is a great plan.

it's a great card that shouldn't ever lose too much value.

it's worth noting that Griselbrand will be the GP promo next year, so if you plan on playing in one of those you can hold off and pick up your foil there, and use your trade ins for something else.

The promo is cool, I'll probably try to snag one of those as well but the closest one is 7 hour's away (Madison) so I'll have to buy/trade for one. The guy I'm getting the FOIL Griselbrand from actually has a foil play set and I might try to snag another to use as a trader.

Griselbrand has dropped about ten dollars in value but he isn't likely to see a mass reprint any time soon so I'd say shoot for it.

It already arrived in the mail, just got it about 3 hours ago. I think I'm going to grab one more.

The bad part is, I collected as a kid about 7-13 year's old but lost interest as I had no friends who played. The cards sat in two 3 row card boxes for years until I dug them out one day about two years ago and decided to buy some new packs. Well I bought about 12 packs of Avacyn Restored and a FOIL Griselbrand was one of the cards i pulled, at this point I wasn't aware of MTG cards being worth much, and like the first time I lost interest with nobody to play with. I've always been a hockey card collector so I brought all my old Beta, Revised, Unlimited, 4th, ice age, mirage, portal, tempest, ect as well as my Avacyn Restored cards to the card shop hoping to trade towards a box of hockey cards. The owner didn't want to offer anything for them so I just said take them, I don't want the cards anyway.... little did I know I probably gave away ALOT of valuable cards. Now I'm hard core into MTG and I'm just happy to have a foil griselbrand again lol.

I got the griselbrand, now what about a FOIL Avacyn, Angel of Hope ? I'm able to trade for one, he wants my playset of Thoughtseize (Theros) for it. I know value wise I'm getting a little in this offer but my little experience says I'll end up on the losing end down the road. Keep the Thoughtseize or trade??

Remember how multiplication works. If the four cards gain three bucks in the next 3 years that's a twelve dollar swing, whereas I don't know if avacyn foil would break a Benjamin in that same time period.

Foil Avacyn and Griselbrand are always super tradeable. Everyone wants a foil Avacyn for their Gifts deck, or for EDH, and Griselbrand sees play in all formats it's legal in.

They're really great to throw in the side of a trade so you can get an extra Wasteland or Karakas, or something along those lines.
