Foil Khans Polluted Delta...

Ok so I know it's obvious that the price on this thing is only going to go up. My questions are what kind of final price is it likely to settle at? How long is it likely to take to get there?

I have one and have had no need to move it and have every intention of just holding on to it and letting it build value. However that is until I started needing some cards. I need to pick up a playset of Verdant Catacombs and think I know someone who would be interested enough in the Delta that I should be able to get what I need maybe with a little negotiation. Are we looking anywhere close to the $400 price tag of the onslaught fetches within the next 5 years.... will they be less.... will it take longer to reach their max potential? I ask, because there may be other ways to pick up the fetches but this would probably be the easiest. I know there is speculation of a reprint but I really don't want to wait 18+ months before a reprint occurs and then have to wait another 4-6 months for their prerelease prices to drop down to a price lower than the onslaught fetches are currently at. Does the immediate value of being able to use the cards now + the long term value they hold, outweigh the long term value of a single foil Polluted Delta?

The foil Delta will go up, but if you're waiting for it to hit 400 bucks, don't hold your breath. Khans is the most open set in MtG history, and that means that it's going to be quite a while before even the foils rise to close to the price of their predecessors.

Specifically, I would wait if ZEN fetches are what you're interested in. Unless you desperately need them, the word on the grapevine is that they're going to be reprinted in the next few sets or so.

Eh. The price will probably remain where it is for a while. KTK is still being opened plenty.

You'll never see the price for the ONS prints. Ever. That's not how the game works.

ONS fetch foils are expensive (and were expensive) because they're very old and hard to find, and because the ONS fetches were the only of their kind until ZEN, and the only of their pairings until KTK. Reprint foils don't come close to the value of older foils. Basic S&D and rarity economics. Newer sets are being opened more and more, and the cards are immediately available by virtue of being in the current rotation. Even after they rotate out and years have passed since their last printing, the older foils will still be more valuable.

Honestly the rareness of the older foil is so much more than the newer ones that the price will only rise for it. You are one of many many people in the world who have foil polluted delta's from khans. It was the most open set of all time. I dont see the price rising anywhere near as high because most people who want a foil delta and are willing to pay a lot for it will actually want the old one. Personally if you can get good value from it now or soon and actually use the cards then I would just move it.

Magic cards are not an investment no matter the stories you hear. My buddy thought he had a ton of value on some old cards and turns out it was worth nothing.

@Shill: Magic cards are definitely an investment---if you know what you're doing.

Yeah, I knew it wouldn't reach the onslaught prices I was just kind of using that as a reference. Realistically though, what kind of price are we looking for this to eventually settle at?

If you're thinking about trading eternal value for standard playables, there's an argument to be made that the future value may outweigh the present benefit of actually using the cards.

But when you're talking eternal value for eternal value, take the cards you're going to play with (almost) everytime.
