Foil Silumgar's command

rare drafted a shiny Silumgar's Command the other week. No plans to use it, and not sure if I should sell or chuck it in a spec box.
In general, what do you guys think about foil unpopular standard rares with ~meh future EDH potential?

I'd hold it till BFZ. It isn't terrible and when the card pool decreases it might have some use. A card like Dreadbore could be printed or no planeswalker removal and the Command might be the only way UB or Sultai could remove Planeswalkers. If it goes up it will be at that time. Punting it now would be selling low.

The only way this will see play is if it can serve some role for U/B control once rotation comes around and the deck loses a lot of its toys. That's assuming control will be present in the meta and that the command offers something valuable. Other than that, no chance.

It could very well become Standard's answer for Walkers if no other dedicated card is printed that can do so. Even if this is the case, I suspect that this will be a sideboard card in UB. Still an awesome pull though.

Well, that's not to say it's impossible for Silumgar's Command to be worthwhile. We don't know what lands we'll have in BFZ. Maybe the tri-colored land bases will be too bulky. Maybe there's going to be tangible rewards for running a high number of basics. Maybe red has great cards for control and Grixis becomes the control deck of choice. All those things could make Utter End look less appetizing. Still, I've been thinking that Utter End will see more play once Hero's Downfall rotates. We'll have to wait and see, really.

You guys have given me a lot to think about. With Utter End in the same block Silumgar's Command is probably not worth holding.
If I want to trade IRL it's TCG mid is currently $3.30. MTGprice shows the best buylist price as only $0.13. But on Pucatrade its going for 488 points. Seems like the best bet is to try to get the extra $1.80 value there (even if I'm unlikely to find a trade partner), and put the points into a stronger spec target.

I mean, you pretty much answered your own question. It sees little play across formats, even in Standard where it's the most playable. Unless U/B control takes off, I think you've got a solid $3 foil rare.
