GATECRASH SEALED PRODUCT

Hello! With GTC having crazy good cards and Boros, Simic, and Gruul being popular, would it be worth it to buy some booster boxes and/or packs and NOT open them to hold onto for a while? (a year or so) Just curious looks like a decent investment. :D

I wouldn't say so. Most of the cards out of that set are only playable in Standard, so holding the box until it rotates out of standard isn't the best choice. I'd say just pick up some Domri Rade s and hold on to them, as they have a use in Modern.

You think RTR has more Modern potential? that was my second choice but not sure

RTR will probably rise in price as a box. But definitely not anytime soon. But pretty much any box rises over time.

Buying boxes in standard right now isn't a huge money maker. Its singles of staples that are good investments. Like Snapcaster Mage 3 weeks ago.

This seems to be coming up a lot. I don't mean to be rude, but this is not how game economics work. You can't buy a box and then get a huge, immediate return on investment. It takes years for boxes to gain value. If you buy now, you probably won't make any appreciable amount of money back for at least 3-5 years. Even then, you'll have to account for shipping and undercutting when you sell the box, and those are going to really cut into the value you "made" by stockpiling.

tl;dr: Stockpiling is a slow, slow, slow process, and it requires enormous investment.

Rather than sealed product, if I had spare money for investments I would put it in any modern staple.

Lands are the best investment. Any dual lands played in Legacy or Modern are unlikely to lose value.

Usually with investing in sealed product, the value of the object comes from the fact that the box is sealed, not because of the value of the cards you can open inside it. While the potential to open money cards does influence that price, it's not the main factor. The price goes up in time because sealed boxes become rarer to find, and that takes awhile.

@ThatBlueMage - Does Domri really have a place in modern? The only decks I've seen him in that did well are Kiki pod using him as a one-of. I was figuring I'd let him plateau and trade him away, then buy one cheap when he rotates. But I'd like to know if I missed anything.

According to the pod guy in our test group, there's three kinds of pod- Melira, Kiki, and Domri, and apparently domri pod runs him as a 3-4 of. I really don't know enough about the deck to know if it's actually a thing or not, but that's what our guy says. Could just be his invention, but I've played his domri pod deck, and it's pretty good. Doesn't depend on infinite combos, just bashing face.

Hm. Doesn't sound to me like its too big of a thing (and if it becomes one, it'll show up before rotation hopefully). I just don't see him being 32 dollars (and climbing) long term. I remember when I traded an Angel of Serenity for one back when both were 12. I think I won that trade...

i think youd be better off investing in innastrad. It's out of print and has 3 cards that see a crazy amount of legacy / modern play. but is still recent enough that there are enough unopened boxes to keep prices moderate.

Bad idea. Not do this.

RtR is a better idea for this. Still not great, but better.
