Geist of Saint Traft

I'm definitely holding on to every Snapcaster Mage post-rotation because the price is expected to rise, but what is everyone's opinion of Geist of Saint Traft ? Is he going to be useful in anything besides EDH? Is he expected to rise in price too?

Should I stick them in the trade binder, or sit on them? I noticed that SCG is sold out of Snappy and Geist right now, so I was wondering about that.

Pretty sure Geist is already a powerhouse in Modern, too.

I've only seen him used a little in modern.

Geist of Saint Traft is a strong card in Modern, and it got more effective in EDH with the M14 rules update.

That said, it isn't played widely enough to maintain its current price. It could fall to $10, depending on where the demand finally settles.

Also, SCG is not "sold out" of Snapcaster Mage . I assure you, they have plenty.

Geist is a plenty playable in Modern, but the majority of the decks that used it were Standard decks, mainly Geist Deck Wins and Bant Hexproof. Because of the nature of snappies granting card advantage, they will maintain their value, while geist will probably drop and hover right around $10-$15.

I actually beg to differ with some of the comments above.

Right now, Geist of Saint Traft doesn't exist in Modern. It has placed exactly zero copies in the top 16 of either of the last two Modern Grand Prix. At the time of this posting, there are zero copies of it among the 4-0 daily decks listed on the MTGO page. The only decks that it fits in are Tribal Zoo and UWR. Tribal Zoo is a deck that rarely gets played, and UWR has been turning into a control deck and most often no longer has any Geists at all. In other words, there is no current Modern Tier 1 or 2 deck that uses Geist regularly.

This does fluctuate, of course. Three GP's ago, two decks in the top 16 featured Geist, and a little over a year ago, the UWR Delver Tempo deck that featured Geist was all the rage. But the metagame has shifted and even the Delvers are mostly existing in UR decks these days.

So it'll be worth something if the metagame shifts around to a place where it doesn't match up as horribly as it does right now. But as long as the format is filled with Goyfs, Oozes, Finks, and Ravagers, it's just not going to see any play.

It's a powerful legacy card as well. It's played in a few builds such as UW miracles and Bant Maverick.

legacy is the only other format ive seen geist really represented in but not even 1/2 as often as standard, its on SCG for under $15 and i think itll stay around there or down towards 12 unless it can find a quality home
