Goblin Rabblemaster, Where is the ceiling?

Goblin Rabblemaster hit another rise last night! Where is the ceiling for this guy???

I scooped up my playset at $11 each when I thought that was closing in on top dollar for this king of tokens. Well SCG now has him listed at $20 and my local shop just repriced him at $21!

I can see where the rise is coming from as Mardu is just built for this guy, its like they designed the entire Mardu meta to run Rabblemasters.

I have a feeling we will see all the top tier Mardu builds using him as a 4of which could drive the price even higher!

so whats the consensus? Where is the ceiling for this guy?

I'm so glad I got my playset during the pre-release weekend.

They key is that basically every single deck with red in it that isn't control is playing him. That means I wouldn't be shocked to see him at 25 or 30 for a bit until rampant Drown in Sorrow play crushes his dreams.

Nigeltastic thats why Mardu shines so much with him Chief of the Scale gets him out of Sorrow as well as cheap burn range, multiples get him out of Strikes and Bile Blight range.

Given I am not running Chief of the Scale in my Mardu build because there is just no room for him, and Mardu will typically cripple most decks by turn 4-5ish

He has actually seen the most play in Jeskai burn/tempo decks. Personally, I don't like rabblemaster. I think he is good, but as a control player, I never have a hard time dealing with him

He was a staple in last nights crushing of the no longer feared 'Merican Control deck in last nights playtesting for me.

Multiple Rabblemasters Early game my buddy just could not find answers as quickly as I was making tokens.

I felt the same way about him for while, I did not see the warrant for the price. After playing him, I still dont think he is a $25-$30 rare, but I am not gonna argue that lol :)

This is why Anger of the Gods exists.

Again, Chief of the Scale in Mardu builds prevents this, as well as potentially Athreos, God of Passage

scale will die, the +0/+1 will fall off, then rabblemaster will die too unless you somehow manage to get 2 out by that time that anger is drawn in which case they printed End Hostilities

I hear what you are saying, and its like anything in standard at the moment. There is always an answer for anything. At the end of the day the question still remains the same. Do people think Goblin Rabblemaster is worth his current value? In the short term do you think he is going to rise or drop? and whats his ceiling?

I personally like Brimaz, King of Oreskos for the "Trojan horse" creatures.

Much better too.

I guess I should have specified. Control is growing and these 2 cards are very certainly going to start see way more play to counter-act these rabble decks. By that logic, he's got to be at the top of his worth and I really think he'll stay there until the control and midrange archtypes really solidify to their fullest.

I see him staying decently priced, but he is going to come down a bit... probably stall out in mid month and start going down by beginning of nov... I end up using them to make people target them... if you can only take out one or 2 creatures my rabblemasters are the first ones targeted. sets up decently for other combos.

He's a really good card in Standard and he'll probably be great in Modern as well. Maybe we'll finally see Modern Gobbos come close to the power of Legacy gobbos lol

I think he'll come close to Lorwyn's Thoughtseize prices depending on his rarity and how popular he becomes.

This guy reminds me of Dark Confidant . A Card I wish I'd gotten 4 of when he was going for $7 each

Im liking this build... http://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=8229&d=247363&f=ST

Brimaz & Rabblemaster. + Thoughtseize, Crackling Doom, Lightning Strike, & Hero's Downfall. I'd personally run Searing Blood too.

@APPLE01DOJ yeah I was looking at that the other day, Looks like a potent brew and a great home for Butcher of the Horde

Butcher of the Horde has a home in any deck that creates tokens lol That guy is a beast.

Caligula says... #18

I'm saying that looks like the most effective use of him..

I'm not sure he fits into any token deck.

Butchers fit into an deck with expendable/easily replaceable creatures

I sure hope he doesn't rise much more...I need a playset for Jeskai Tempo...I wish I had picked them up just a couple weeks ago like i had planned on...

This is the beginning of a new format where all of the format staples just rotated out. Red is always a powerhouse post-rotation and staples in red shoot up. Remember Hellrider ? Thundermaw Hellkite ? Ash Zealot ? Same thing.

I really doubt Goblin Rabblemaster will stay above $20. I doubt he'll stay above $8. He's just not that good outside of Standard and we're at a point where the control and midrange decks haven't been figured out yet.

Really considering dumping mine now for a quick turn profit and restocking when the price dips.

Worried that he will not make a substantial drop in the near future though......

Wolfninja says... #23

I think he's pretty much hit the ceiling for now. He did hit like $20.25 on tcgplayer, and is now down to like $19.50. I don't see him going back over $20, especially once people start building (or at least sideboarding) to combat the growing plague that is Goblin Rabblemaster , Anger of the Gods is a good one against him, Hornet Nest could also do well against Rabblemaster since the tokens have to attack.

Dalektable says... #24

I think it depends. I think his price will drop some when all the Mono Red Aggro decks disappear from tier one player, however still retain value due to Jeskai Tempo until a better creature is found.
