Hey everyone,
what do you expect to happen to Hero's Downfall price after it rotates in October? Will it plummet to Murder-like values? I haven't seen any deck in modern that really runs it and it's almost irrelevant in EDH. Not that it was all that expensive right now, I'm just running a few casual budget decks and I'd like to replace the Murder in those by Downfalls and I wondered if it was wise to wait until, I don't know, November. Thanks!

Like most standard staples, it'll plummet to the $1-$3 rare category never to be used again.

I think it'll see /some/ edh play. The instant speed helps a lot. Now I'm talking more budgeted minds. I don't play edh (someone who does told me it'll see play, and I think it will) but there's probably better answers for more money.
Dreadbore's sorcery speed hurt it a lot. I'd guess for Hero's Downfall to be around 2

If black devotion in modern ever becomes a thing, it has a 50/50 chance of being put there, but until that happens, you're safe waiting until they rotate to pick them up.

I'm actually trying a modern black devotion deck, and I've put two of them in side.
The thing is, black has cheaper creature removal (Victim of Night, for example), but some planeswalker hate, which doubles up as one of those mentioned removals, is pretty nice in some matchups.
Besides, with the new flippable planeswalkers, it could be an interesting card, if they become a threat.

Hero's Downfall is interesting in EDH.
On the surface, there are obviously better cards such as Maelstrom Pulse, Beast Within, and Vindicate.
However, the instant speed with no downside does make it nice. In decks where I play a lot of removal, I might play it in addition to cards like the ones noted above. In a mono-black EDH list it is a good card because pure black mostly dominates in creature removal and is lacking in other areas.
That being said, the value is not going to hold. My guess would be a max of about $2 long-term.

It will probably mimic what happened to Dreadbore and be a $1-$2 rare (closer to $2 methinks) since it is a strictly better Murder.
