How does WotC hosted tournaments and their payout structure work?

Hello all! I wasn't sure where to post this, so here it goes.

I am attending my first GP in a few weeks, and I have a few questions regarding how prizes are paid. I have asked the TO, but they take forever to answer.

Here are my questions:

  • Is there any minimum attendance for a GP to be held? The GP that will be held in my country (Costa Rica) has a relatively small MTG community (close to 300 active standard players). The numbers on the prize wall mention 3000 attendees, so you can understand my concern.
  • I saw somewhere that if wizards was to pay you a prize, you had to have an account with a specific e-wallet company. Which was it?
  • Who pays the prizes for the tournament? WotC or the tournament organizer?

Thanks :D

The GP will be held. A lot of players travel to them, so it's rarely just local players.

I'm not sure about an e-wallet account, they sent me a check.

WotC is responsible for payouts.

Interesting fluffybunnypants. I too was curious about this. How did you finish in the GP where you got paid?

I've never had to give an account to get prize support, I've also only ever received a check. I think you might be able to opt into sending to a paypal account, but I don't think anyone actually does that.

Your dci should have all info needed for them to send check.
