How Long to Wait

So I want to buy about $1,000 in cards within the next month or so. A fair amount of cards I want were in EMA. How long should I wait, if at all, before purchasing cards from that set?

give it like a month to let card prices settle

I mean, if you're looking to play eternal formats, you may be better off simply buying cards from the reserved list. Stuff like Underground Sea or Gaea's Cradle, since you can afford them and they won't be reprinted. Less cards to play with, but a safe investment, and a necessary one if you are trying to play decks to their fullest

Thank you, and may I ask why that is the case?

It's a Mono Block EDH Stax(ish?) Combo Control Deck. I'm not sure what an "eternal format" is, pardon my ignorance.

an eternal format is vintage, legacy, kind of modern too, and EDH. Formats where the cards don't rotate out of legality. He made the assumption it would be legacy or vintage given the value of the cards you want to buy, and the fact that EMA ('Eternal' Masters) has alot of the cards you want. What are the cards? Our of interest?

I mean, I'm buying the whole deck through singles. It's not any one specific card, but just any card in the deck that's reprint in EMA could help reduce it's price.

Right now would be the best time to buy EMA cards - people who open valuable cards will try to cash in on that value asap. I would say the best time for EMA purchases is this week and the next.

The best time to buy is during peak supply of the set, when the number of boosters being opened per day just starts to drop off. It can be different set-to-set, but peak supply is usually when players begin to lose interest in drafting a set. Boza is probably correct, at $40 a pop, that's going to happen to EMA quicker than most. Also due to wide-spread predictions of limited print run, anyone who wanted to open a box has likely already done so.

I say to wait a month or so because then prices will be settled after the hype of opening a new set with some newly reprinted cardss for example I just traded for a foil that dropped 15 dollars in 2 days prices are not at all stable and wont be for at least a few weeks.

Technically speaking, an eternal format is one that includes cards from any Magic release. Modern isn't eternal, but it's nonrotating (sets don't rotate out like they do in Standard).

For the purposes of card prices, this distinction sometimes matters. For example, Eternal Masters didn't add any cards to Modern, but some cards might be legal in Modern due to other printings.

Thanks for your input guys.

I'm probably gonna purchase them sometime in the next week or 2. Payday is today, and I'm looking for some last minute cards to purchase for my decks. Thanks guys!
