How Much Potential Does Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip Have In Modern?

The real reason that I'm asking this as I wanted to know if people think that the new Liliana might be good in modern. For a Rally the Ancestors deck I need to get for of her and someone offered a playset to me for my 1 regular + 1 foil KTK Polluted Delta and I was wondering if she might at least hold her price after rotation.

Lightning Bolt is a 4-of in 40% of decks and costs 1 mana. Liliana costs 3 and dies to it.

I would think the Polluted Delta's will hold their price far longer than this version of Liliana will, however, if it was me, I'd make that trade purely because I'd love having a playset of Lili's :D

(my comment was a roundabout way of saying she won't hold value come rotation).

While what chief said is true, that is true for most creatures <= 3 CMC. There are basically two considerations here, financial and erm, empirical:

  • financial - it is undoubtedly true that long-term this is not a good trade. A multiformat land staple will only increase in price. A mediocre Lili of the Veil is likely to not hold its current price.

  • empirical - Do you have a deck that plays one or both of these deltas? Do you have a deck that wants a playset of liliana? If you answer yes to any one of these questions, aim to get those cards. Especially if financial implications are of no concern to you.

I would not trade a foil 'Delta for flip Lilianas. But I also don't need her.

The Delta is essentially guaranteed to hold its price, while Liliana has a chance at dropping a little.

ChiefBell: Eh, that's not a real argument. You could sac something in response to the bolt to flip her at instant speed.

The main issue with her is that, while strong, she needs a sac engine that also wants -her.- She'd have been great in Pod. :P

I don't think such a deck exists currently, tho.

I wouldn't trade deltas for her tho.

I'd play her in combo-oriented CoCo. However, I don't even know if she's necessarily good enough for that deck, and she definitely doesn't have the value that a Polluted Delta would have.

I mean, you might as well play Lili of the Veil...

Foil Polluted Delta will be worth vastly more than a playset of Lili's in 2-3 years.

Shes going to drop like a sac of potatoes. She'll be worth more than the other planeswalkers from origins, but that wont be saying much.

FAMOUSWATERMELON is right... you might as well just play Liliana of the Veil and call it a day.

The whole discussion is basically:

Liliana of the Veil Versus Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip

While she cost 3 to play, Origins Lili won't be flipping until at least the next turn, assume you meet her flipping requirement, making her drastically slower and less reliable then just playing Lili of the Veil in format that demands both. And Origins Lili's all important -X ability isn't as good in Modern, where Lili of the Veil's -2 will force sacrifice, thus providing some form of survivablity, which Origins Lili lacks entirely.

The only reason I think she might be playable in CoCo is because you can actually grab her with CoCo and take advantage of the board pretty well (grabbing her before damage seems pretty good).

@ DarkHero, you do not have a wait a full turn to flip origins lily, she does need another creature to die however in order to flip. comparing the two in value though, new lily comes out on top imo because she leaves a body behind to protect her while also able to + or - same turn.

Assign a block with a small creature like a Pharika's Chosen, cast Collected Company, put Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip into play, combar resolves and Pharika's Chosen dies, Lili makes a 2/2 Zombie and flips, -1 Lili to put Pharika's Chosen back on the battlefield if needed. Profit.
