How often does a booster box turn a profit?

I was just wondering, but say I buy a booster box of BotG, what is the likelyhood that I'd turn a profit on the set based on statistics of previous sets?

Don't buy a box for Profit.
Buy cards that will be more expensive later for profit.
Buy a box to expand your collection.

It changes with each set. Some cards are worth more. Take m14 for example, Mutavault became a $30 card, two of the planeswalkers are worth a decent amount. Mutavault is a rare, so you COULD get 3 of them in a box. It happens, found a guy who got two voices from a fat pack of dragons maze. Impossible to tell without knowing the cards. Could guess after the cards are revealed, but remember a lot of cards get shot down after awhile. Some cards just keep their value.

I got a playset of Vaults when they were $10, so if I bought $1000 worth of them when they were that price, and then sold them now...

With new sets its essier to turn a profit imo, we opened a box and traded enough stuff in to get a 2nd box, repeated. End of the cycle 4 boxes were opened and a ton of good rares including 3 elspeth 4 Thoughtseize etc we got to keep, plus foils and un/commons since all the prices tend to be jacked up, then 2 weeks later prices drop and some hiden gem shoots up amd we have 10 copies already

Well it varies from set to set, but buying a box is rarely good economically. If you want trade fodder, sure, but it's usually more practical to wait until everything is released and buy what you need in singles.
