So, i am currently in the process of making buying a deck i've set up full of cards i don't have. So my question is, will buying them from a store, or online be cheaper. ((Store is probably about....10$ in gas away)). Or is this one of those things that vary totally depending on the store?

I depends on how expensive the cards you're looking for are, what kind of stock the store has, and what their prices are compared to online. realistically speaking, many stores sell their stuff on a site and will ship it to you, which is cheaper than 10 bucks in gas. if they don't have a site, then I'd suggest either waiting for an excuse to drive that way, or just make a trip and see what their stock is like. go in with a list of what you want and the average prices. if they are good prices compared to TCG/SCG, then go for it. if they are much higher, you can call it no harm no foul. the one benefit a LGS has over online is you can potentially trade in value for it, as opposed to just straight cash.

Tl:Dr It never hurts to look, but you never have to commit to an outrageous prices.

In general, buying online will be cheaper, because they don't have all the overhead expenses that a brick and mortar shop will have. It will also vary some on cards. But in general, your cheapest bet would probably be somewhere online. Ebay is a good place to start.

Mtgmarket is also very cheap imo. Just add all cards you need to "my wants" -list and it shows you all sellers that have those cards. Compare prices and try to avoid high freights. In the end pretty easy.

the best thing to do, is to buy bulk commons/uncommons all from one place, online preferably. And then shop around for your rares, as their prices vary substantially.

I've got some really good prices on ebay with patience and a little luck. A set of shock lands for low-$30s for example. TCG is always a good place to go too. My favorite way to get cards is to trade with other players in person. Do a little of everything but mostly ordering online will be the least expensive - you'll usually have to wait a little over a week tho. Call the shop ahead to check if they have certain rares in stock if you need them right away. If it's an inexpensive card (or just a little bit more) - support your local shop. Ask about their trade-in policy. Hunting down a card can be kinda fun
