I panicked. Unplanned Voice Acquisition.

So my friend is going through difficult times and decided to unload a number of his cards yesterday. I found out just before he drove off to the store to sell them, panicked and bought his 3 Voice of Resurgence for 8 dollars a card, which brings me up to a playset.

Honest guys I'm excited I got them but I have NO idea what I'm going to do with them. I wasn't even playing with the single copy I already had because I had found it rather lacking in Commander play. It was an impulse decision, and while I don't necessarily regret it, the purchase wasn't even remotely something I would have done if they were full price.

How good are these cards? Aside from my VERY lackluster results when playing with Voice in commander I have no idea what the perceived value of this card is.

Are they long term modern playable? I know it dropped by something like $22 or more from it's high when it was in standard but a lot of things have dropped much farther. What does the price want to do here? I can probably find SOME way to play with these and might post in another forum for some advice there but right now I'm just curious about everyone's opinion on the financial future of this card here.

Is Voice going to be a modern staple or just a fringe card pushed to a high price due to its relative scarcity?

It sees play in hatebears and pod. Getting them for $8 each is fantastic

I think David McCarty played some voices in his legacy deck he just won with? They are bein played a little in legacy but it may just increase from now on

They are played in Pod, Hatebears, and some Junk Rock decks. They're pretty solid from an investment standpoint, especially since you got them so cheap. They're mythic rares from a set that wasn't heavily opened. They'll definitely increase in value over time.

Well that makes me feel better. I hadn't payed any attention to the viability of the card since I got into modern and decided to play bogles instead of tokens.

Yeah, don't be too concerned. It sees enough Eternal constructed play, and $8 is an excellent purchase. If you want to play a cool Zoo list in Modern, you now have a playset of one of its more expensive creatures.

Basically just parroting the above posts, but figured extra assurance can't hurt.

One of the best decks in Modern plays at least two copies, and you can run four if you'd like. Good buy.

@TheDevicer The magic cards are the least of his problems right now.

Don't feel bad I bought a Voice of Resurgence play set without a deck to run him in too. I did end up building a midrange deck with them and have been happy with it ever since.

Absolutely love the card.

The card used to go for a lot more than 22$ btw... I remember picking some up around 25$ and considered it a great deal... It had a 40$ price tag for the longest time.

Got to chat with my friend today and he ended up being really unhappy with the prices the store was offering him so we worked out that I'm going to buy Sword of Light and Shadow, Sword of Body and Mind, Sword of Feast and Famine, Sword of War and Peace, Bloodstained Mire, a playset of Birds of Paradise and the three Voice of Resurgence for $70 on my next paycheck.

... Is it worth it? I'm not used to buying high dollar cards like this without months of planning and budgeting out of my personal money and knowing exactly where the card is going when get it.

Yes its worth it. Sword of Light and Shadow + 3x Voice is worth it. All that other stuff is just a bonus.

That's a hell of a deal if those cards are in good shape. I feel pretty rough for your buddy though. Hopefully his luck turns around. I'd be pretty crestfallen if I had to sell those beauties. :(

The store must have been giving him some pretty terrible prices then. I'd do 70 for all of those in a heartbeat as long as they were in playable condition. Don't even have to be pretty.

Aerokid He wanted approximately 50% of the value and their first offer was 35%. He ended up going back after we worked out our deal to sell some planeswalkers he had for about 40% value because he needed cash now, but kept the fetch lands that were in his decks. (I convinced him to not sell what he was actively playing with)

I really like the shop but I'm not quite sure what they were thinking. In the past they have offered me 75% SCG prices in-store credit for Standard legal staples but I've only sold the once. My friend is something of a wheeler and a dealer, though. Always buying everything he wants and then selling it off when times get hard or he gets bored and I know he's sold to them on many more occasions than I have, so maybe they were just tired of dealing with him or knew they could get away with offering a low price because he needed the money and they didn't need the cards. Also it's a locally owned business and not part of any chain so it's all out of the owner's pocket so maybe he's just not having a good month and simply couldn't offer better prices.

All in all, I feel good about it. Helping my friend out by giving him more money than anyone else will while getting a fantastic price on some cards for myself.
