Is it better to preorder now for Origins or wait for the price to settle?

So far for every new set release I always wait for the price to settle before getting what I want (I mostly wait since people will mass-draft/crack-a-box, thus getting more cards in circulation).

But Origins got so many good cards, so I fear that the price will only skyrocket from now. Any opinions from Economics master in TO?

Depends on what you want to preorder. Most Mythics and some Rares have an overblown price on preorder.

Wait. Unless you need something now for a deck. Prices will drop a few weeks after release.

That's what I thought. I was shocked that Exquisite Firecraft cost a whooping $4 in SCG. I know it has the potential to be good, but not THAT good

I'm just watching Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip. Need him for my 1-drop cube, but not at $25.

Considering most of the cards will settle at bulk prices, preorder prices will be way to high.

The only thing that i can rememver thatll be for sure good in eternal formats is hallowed midnight or whatever and the exquisite fire thing and those wont be worrth much. Prices will drop i dont think anything even for standard will maintain a good price above 10 bucks

The thing to remember is that, by the law of economics, a random collection of 36 mythics/rares should settle at or below about $120 (the price of a booster box, give or take). If values are much higher than that, then players will just buy boosters (this never happens). If they're much lower, then booster boxes will tank because nobody (other than drafters) will be cracking packs.

Generally, let things settle - most hyped cards are overpriced at pre-order. There will always be a few exceptions though - mostly rares that are under $4 right now, which gives them a chance of going up, and limits your losses. (I'm looking at you, Siege Rhino and Dig Through Time.

There's definitely value to be had in the pre-orders, but it can be tough to find.
