Personally hope not, but it looks like Kiora, the Crashing Wave is indeed expected to spike in price.
Looking to get a playset or at least 3 of her. Should I be getting her sooner rather than later?
i would expect her to go down some. mckins estimate sounds about right to me.

I don't think she'll be big in standard so I expect her price to drop. She's to vulnerable (due to starting loyalty) and can't do anything to completely protect herself right away (though I kind of like her +1). I think mckin pretty much nailed this.

It's definitely going down in price. $12-15 sounds about right in the short term, but I could see it going down to $10 or less in a few months. The color scheme isn't popular, the starting loyalty is pathetic, and the abilities are underwhelming to put it nicely. Beware a Planeswalker whose main selling point is its ultimate. If you do decide to play her, get 2 tops. You never will want 3 or 4 copies in the same deck.

To me her selling point isnt the ultimate.
The +1 isnt really something to scoff at, it's there if you need it, if anything it'll be THE reason your opponent will want to get rid of it.
that -1 isn't impressive, it's a subtle way of putting yourself ahead. If she gets killed by a spell you technically just spent 4 mana and no cards to get rid of an opponent's card, if she gets killed by a creature, she's replaced herself at the very least and gotten you further into the game at the same time
She's so underwhelming, I expect her to go under the radar in most games, oscillating between her +1 and -1 to keep you ahead. I dont think it'll take long for players to realise how she's good.

The +1 is a good answer to Desecration Demon and Phyrexian Obliterator

That's a very good point Devonin. I can see her applicatiin in constructed play but I think she's to high CMC for modern (not an expert on modern at all but understand it to be a very fast format) and same for legacy. She might see play in EDH but there would have to be a Doubling Season involved to speed it up. Just IMHO.

I agree with ChrisHansonBiomancin, that she'll potentially drop below $10 with time. Im sure she'll see lots of play but to me it just seems like a card you have to build around in most ways.

Bant control has been getting pretty popular here lately at my LGS during constructed events, last monday the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place decks were bant control(all which have kioras) and they could usually get her out by turn 3. they would protect her with stuff like Fog and her first ability would usually keep the opponents away to the point to pull off her ultimate pretty easily.

I still say people are underrating this card. I think Kiora has the potential to push Simic Devotion into a competitive level of Standard play. But there's something called "prejudice". Because Simic is usually not a popular deck, people suspect it will never be popular. Sure, it's 4 mana for a potential 2 Explore , but hey when you play Explore that's also the same cost. And the +1 seems decent enough if you can get your board sorted out. And even if it isn't 2x Explore is nothing to laugh at. Card advantage people!

My favorite decks are Simic, so if there's any bias here, it's the other way around (even tho I was the one to point out that it's not popular). That said, I would never, ever, put Kiora in a deck until there are 4 Jace, Architect of Thought
in it. Better card advantage from the minus, burn-proof Loyalty if you plus, and the protection is a toss-up depending on what you're playing against, tho Id still give the slight edge to Jace since Kiora's is basically useless against aggro.
In fact, I have been playing Simic Devotion for the last few months, and Jace will keep its spot. My Prophet, Your Loss (Top 4 FNM)
The only time I see Kiora being even playable is in Bant control where you can use its plus to force the opponent to devote more to the board, setting up Supreme Verdict . But even then, it doesn't deserve consideration until all 4 Jace slots are filled up.
Due to the shared color and unfavorable comparison to Jace, I suspect Kiora will take a big drop in price at least until RTR rotates out.

She's actually just straight up playable in EDH IMO

I agree Devonin. I put her in an EDH deck idea I'm toying around with. Just cant seem to get it right.

It really depends on the ptq, I think theyll go down to the 12/15 range pending performance and foil will stay higher as an edh card
