Will Kalonian Hydra drop in price? I would like to pickup a playset within 6 months for a casual deck and was wondering when the ideal time to get them would be.

It'll definitely drop after it rotates out. Although it won't be dropping to really low, since it's only used casual now and later.

When does it rotate? Sorry I just play casual and don't follow rotations.

It rotates in the fall. I believe October but don't quote me on the exact month.

October is normally when the newest set launches. The Friday the new set launches after nyx and M15 is when it cycles out. Unless it reprints in M15

It'll drop if it reprints in M15, too, though. A reprint will be better for its price in the long run, but it means we'll have to wait a lot longer for it to drop to its lowest.

What are the odds of a reprint in M15?

I would say low on a reprint chance.

Kalonian Hydra has done nothing but fall in price after it was released. I pulled one at draft and it started off at like $30 and is now somewhere around $15. It's a great bomb but it just doesnt have a niche in competetive.

It'll probably reach an all time low and stay there early next year. You'll have to wait till then.

Bellock86: I wouldn't say it isn't competitive. Not only does it act as a lightning rod for removal and what not so you can get other things out, but if you lay a Xenagos, God of Revels before it, it's swinging for 12 and has trample for 5 mana the turn it comes out.

Kalonian Hydra should be less than $5 when Huey is released in about 6 months.

Also, I have another question. Will Primordial Hydra stay around $5-6 or go up or down in price?

@Invisible_Stalker ~ I didnt say it wasnt competetive. I said it doesn't have a niche in competetive. There is a difference (however small).

It's a beast in limited but in standard it has to be slightly built around to maximize it's relevance. However, if you are only using it as a bomb then as you said it's removal bait. And when there is a chance of dropping him turn three and then swinging turn 4 he is useful to say the least.

I just feel like there isn't really a place for him in standard. Too much removal and too little counter related things that he works with. The heroic mechanic is interesting but he doesn't fit very well with that. The simic +1/+1 stuff works but I tried multiple times to fit him into it and during testing always wished he was something else.

Bellock86: he works best in a deck that has a lot of threats and looks to just beat the opponent sensless. Like a G/R monster deck that makes the opponet choose their fate.

G/R prefers to run Stormbreath Dragon and Arbor Colossus .(due to overwhelming fears of Desecration Demon and their inability to deal with it). It still see's play just not enough to maintain it's price, hence the downwards slope.

I run Stormbreath Dragon and in place of arbor colossus I run the Kalonian Hydra I've been thinking about changing up the deck though. Idk. It runs so well against other decks other than blue and black. Mostly because it's devotion more than monsters, though.

Kalonian Hydra works good with G/R. I'm using it with Twinflame and Xenagos, God of Revels for an overkill.
