Liliana of the Veil Price, where does it go now?

So I was checking MythicSpoilers and I saw Lily on the page. First almost had a heart attack because thought she was getting reprinted in standard, after my hype I read it. So she is getting reprinted for Regional PTQ Promos. Where does the price go? Does Normal Lily stay the same because Normal Lily has not changed printing and this Promo Lily has its own price range? Or does this act like a reprint and drop the price? Even alil? Link to confirm

Hopefully Lilly doesn't drop much, but I guess we'll see.

Of note, these are given away at tournaments one must qualify for, as opposed to GP promos which anyone can just sign up and receive.

Typically, promo and non-promo printings have their own trajectories. I'm fairly sure the ISD printing won't drop. What I am interested to see is where the promo version ends up in comparison to the ISD foil. I suspect it will be cheaper because the foil stamp is generally unattractive and because the original foils are likely to still be rarer. If that is indeed the case, it'll be nice for people to have a (slightly) cheaper way to foil their sets.

Stays the same, probably. The Promo will be rare because only people who are invited to the PTQs will get one, which will be a very small amount of people.

I know there are two sides to this people want Lily to drop and others want it to stay or rise to keep the ones they have in value lol, I really want a drop X3

A lot of people want a drop. Unfortunately, the secondary market isn't governed by wishful thinking. As many people as there are who want a drop, there are many who still just want the cards. S&D is king.

This isn't an attack on you; I expect you realize this. But still, there are a lot of people out there who just flat out don't understand Magic economics.

Sadly I know how S&D works and how it controls prices. On a side note is there a chance of an actual reprint? In your opinion.

Considering Lilly of the Veil was in M15 for a bit before being removed for power reasons, chances are low

It's possible we might see her in M16 as kind of a last hoorah to the core sets and try to push as much product as possible from a core before they go to the new set cycling.

October 12, 2014 2:20 a.m.

@Stone_Munkee: I don't really agree with that line of thinking. There's no real reason to make M16 special in any way unless WOTC does actually care about giving core sets a celebratory send-off. But I don't think core sets are really where WOTC drives sales because they're stand-alone, generally flavorless sets, and I doubt they perform nearly as well as block sets.

That said, I don't think it's impossible for LOTV to see a reprint. It doesn't warp Standard, provided you're not just handing it to an already-dominant decklist. The problem with planeswalker reprints is that each block set planeswalker basically represents a snapshot of where that planeswalker is in their canonical development. LOTV is where Liliana was after acquiring the Chain Veil, and we're more likely to see Liliana develop into new incarnations as the storyline progresses.

So I suppose that in that sense, the last opportunity to reprint LOTV in Standard would be M16 because core sets basically exist outside of the lore. Apart from that, we're only really like to see LOTV come back in a Modern Masters-like secondary product.

I doubt LOTV's price will change much, if at all. I do hope the promo foils are at a reasonable price though as I have some buddies who would love to foil their copies out.

Man Im kind of bummed they reprinted her, I just wanted her to do nothing but rise in value. Though theres going to be a pretty limited run of the promos, so hopefully it wont effect the price of originals too much.

I wish they had done a different art. The fact that they gave her the same art makes me worry about the original lilianas tanking.

The price will probably end up pretty close to the nonfoil ISD lili. Nat foil will forever be expensive.

October 12, 2014 8:47 a.m.

You need to qualify at your local ptq to gain acess to your regional ptq, then you can get this card. So it won't be like GP where anyone can get the promo. Therefore I hardly doubt that this printing will affect the innistrad printing especially much or affect it at all. I.e prices will not change more than a few dollars. I think this promo will a bit more expensive than the regular non-foil but not even half the price of the regular foil.

I kind of like the idea that WotC may give us a core set that is actually "good" in terms of wanting to send them off with a good note rather than ending on a sour note and giving us another M14. Really? That said...who knows. Maybe M16 will be packed with awesome reprints as a way of saying "thanks for playing and remembering how "it used to be"", or maybe it will just be a core set with 1 or 2 chase cards that are hyped out of control and then settle around $5.

benjamin_is_nuts i see. Well thats doable if its modern, but i assume its only standard?

Liliana would amazing in the M16 coreset. Makes sense.

I thought the M15 core set did a pretty good job. I liked the souls, convoke was a fun mechanic, NIssa and the Goblin Rabblemaster are both worth an arm and a leg respectively.

As to the Liliana reprinting. I do hope to see her reprinted. Any card that climbs that high in cost needs a reprint.

I agree with Epochalyptik regarding a core-set reprint, or a reprint at all for Lily. There's just no reason for it, as the PWs are constantly evolving. The only two ways I can see a reprint even being remotely possible are through a Modern Masters set, or a From the Vault set (and secretly, I would love a FTV: Planeswalkers). I doubt we'd see her in Modern Masters, though, but I could very wrong about that.

M16 is a perfectly viable place for a reprint. Liliana of the Veil is the most recent iteration of her character, and the story line doesn't progress much in core sets. Now, after core sets are eliminated, reprints of planeswalkers becomes pretty difficult to justify.

I don't expect her to be reprinted in M16, but I would love to see it happen.

AngryBearTony says... #21

Correct me if I'm wrong, but LOTV is NOT her most recent iteration. Liliana Vess

PreZchoICE1 says... #22

AngryBearTony Liliana Vess is the original, not an iteration. The m15 version is just a reprint, plain and simple.

My mistake; my apologies.
