Mana Confluence Post-Rotation

I am thinking about picking up a playset or two of Mana Confluence, and I was wondering what people think it will do when shocks rotate out. I know it depends on what duals get printed in the next couple sets. However, I'm still curious!

It will go to about $2-$3, like City of Brass did.

Even when standard may not have any other mana fixing? Therefore making it a bit more valuable?

My bad. That will happen when it rotates out. When shocks rotate, the other duals will come in, so we'll have to wait and see.

Mana Confluence will probably jump a little to around $20 until the next set's land set comes out, then it will dip again to $16, when it rotates it will drop to about City of Brass 's price grade. It's slightly better because the life loss is part of the cost, not an effect.

beckhr: actually, the life loss is worse. think about it, the ability gives you a chance to respond to it, while the life loss does not. if you are at 1 and your opponent at 3, using City of Brass to pay for a Lightning Bolt would mean you win, whereas a Mana Confluence couldn't save you. granted, in most cases, they are practically the same thing. but I think city has the edge

Ninety-nine percent of the time it's the same thing, I see your point. However, your opponent can tap down City of Brass and kill you in the same situation. In revision of my post, they would probably level out to about the same price, City of Brass being slightly less as there are seven printings of it.

I think the real question you're getting at is are you going to see a big return on your investment of buying up several playsets and reselling them after shocks rotate, and the answer is probably not. Mana Confluence opened at $20 and it's been pretty steadily sliding down to $12-15 as the initial demand has been met and it became apparent that not every deck even wants to run them. Even when shocks cycle they're just not going to spike to $30 or anything like that.

Yes demand for them will increase, by how much is very dependent on the next duals.

It also depends on whether the next set will be as friendly to tricolor decks as last rotation was. MBD and MUD take up over a third of the meta right now, they don't need a lot of mana fixing.

In my book Tangle Wire is the reason Mana Confluence is better than City of Brass

I think Mana Confluence will retain more value than City of Brass since it's only been printed once (City of Brass has been re-printed several times).
