Modern Masters Booster Boxes Going Down?

So, I was wondering, as I haven't seen anything about this, but it appears that modern masters booster boxes are down to $200! What happened there?

People aren't willing to pay for draft. Also, considering the value distribution in the set, playing the Magic lottery is not worth purchasing a box, so I guess the boxes just don't sell.

I bought one box to draft with my friends and to say I did, more or less, but it's much more feasible to buy singles of what you want.

Unless you pull a Tarmogoyf, you're probably going to be losing money. Especially now that some of the card prices are starting to settle after all the hype.

I laught at all the people who wasted their money on this.I'll wait a year and buy the box for 50 bucks. Easy as that.

------, The box will never go down to $50. If you think it will, you don't know Magic. People are still willing to pay the Goyf lottery, or the foil lottery, and there are a ton of other good value cards. Some of which will eventually start rising in price again.

I see $150 as the floor for the set, although I don't think it will go that low. I think it might eventually settle around $180.

If you think you'll ever get a box for $50, that's sad. I doubt they will go too much lower than $200. My friend bought three, pulled a Goyf and foil Cryptic, and he's saving the other two to draft with me later. I think it will be fun.

Long story short, they overpriced it. The expected value of a box back when it was released was around $220, (being the averaged value of singles you were likely to pull). So that drove a lot of people away from "investing" in boxes, as the MSRP was significantly higher. Similarly, people didn't draft it as much as expected, knowing that you were unlikely to recoup your draft entrance fee. Low sales mean higher supply, so now its dropped in price substantially. Just the market correcting the pricing mistake.

Yeah, I purchased a box for 200 a week after it came out. But I see people selling them on facebook for 190. There are many facebook groups that buy/sell/trade magic singles and sealed product.

I like buying from a small LGS that's 30 miles away from me. The owner knows I travel out there and hooks me up with decent prices. I ended up picking up 2 MM2 boxes the day it came out for $317.

They'll probably go up in the long run as they become rare but with the market flooded right now they're not worth a lot.

Anybody who thinks these will ever hit $50 needs to have their head examined. They've come down a little for 2 reasons: they were a little over priced to begin with given the expected value of the set; and the print run ended up being extended longer than anyone originally thought, creating more supply. I still think these things will go up well above the MSRP, it'll probably just take a few years.

Not to mention the issue with the packaging damaging cards. If you have a set that has a higher incidence of damaged cards, then that will also contribute to devaluation of sealed product.

I wanted to buy two, but the original prices were way too high and the consensus from my friends was to skip it and buy the singles you need (since there wasn't a lot of value in the uncommons). If it drops to $180, I'm in for two boxes. Otherwise, I'll just stick to standard. Anyone else think they'll drop to ~$180 per box?

I think its a possibility you can find that kind of a deal, especially if you're willing to buy multiple boxes. Really depends on how long the stock takes up space on shelves.

I doubt it will drop lower than 200, as it is almost guaranteed to gain value over the long term (5+ years). but you might find a nervous seller on ebay for less.. stranger things have happened.
