So this is my first "Modern Season" and the price hikes lately across the board seem ridiculous. My question is, when modern season ends do most staples drop a little bit in price back to the pre-modern-season range, or do they retain their price only to go up again once the next modern season comes?

well Goyf was like 100 2 months ago, and now he's at 140.
I'm thinking that if I wait til after modern season I may be able to find him at the 100-120ish range. I'm afraid that if I wait though he may be like 200 each.

With Zoo inevitably becoming a tier 1 deck again the chances of grabbing Tarmogoyf less than $140 is very slim.

Also, goyf is moving further and further away from when he was last reprinted. He will always be good, and there is no reason for him to drop. Other prices are very result dependent.

It depends obviously. If a card like Snapcaster Mage gets abused because Shaman is gone he can hit $30+ easy. Same with the faeries. IF that deck does well (I doubt it does) then the faeries will continue to rise or stay the same. If you are wondering if you should wait until after the modern season to get cards, I think you'd be hard pressed to find better prices than right now.
