Is it crazy to trade a mox for non power 9 cards? I have an offer that I am considering but just can't seem to pull the trigger on even though I have no use for the mox and want/need the cards being offered. I've asked friends what they think about the trade and they are pretty much split. Some say to hold the mox because it's an investment even if I don't have any use for it and they are right, it'll never see a paper reprint and should only continue to rise in value. The others are of the mindset that if the value is in my favor and I need the cards then why not trade it.. While the cards being offered are worth more in total there is only 1, Tundra, that has no chance of a reprint.. the rest consist of a foil Snapcaster Mage, foil Sunken Ruins, 5 expeditions, 2x foil 7th edition pain lands, foil zen Marsh Flats, foil Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip and 2 other nice shiny cards that are around $20 each (I think I may be forgetting 1 or 2 but the value is there)
I just don't know if it will hold over time. The snapcaster is almost guaranteed to see a reprint and most of (if not all) of the other cards already have been reprinted.. so, what do you guys think? Is it crazy and I'm just getting caught up in the possibility of getting some high priced cards that I want/need all at once or is it not the worst idea to split up that value and hope for it to hold or possibly rise in the future?
Personally, I would only trade P9 for ultra high end reserve list staples, like Bazaar and Tabernacle, or maybe a huge pot of Duals. I would definitely not recommend trading it for what's here, as pretty much only the expedition lands will go unreprinted, save the Tundra.

Well, i am sure that they will never reprint the mox...

I'd say hold the P9, They are reserved, so they will never see a reprint. Even though they are barely legal in anything, they are gaurenteed to go up in value.

I think you should hold onto the Mox. You're absolutely right- it will never see a reprint. It's already restricted, and it will never be banned. Snapcaster Mage could get banned In modern, which would drop its price by a longshot. Any of the cards you are trading for (save for the lands) are possible banned cards later down the road. Tundra may seem like a good idea, but you're forgetting that it's not restricted in legacy or vintage, and Eternal Masters is just around the corner. There are a million problems that can happen with the cards you're trading for, so I would hold onto the Mox.

I'm of the opinion to use it to get what you actually want. It's a piece of cardboard that only has the potential value it does if there is a buyer willing to pay it. One can make predictions on the market but really anything can happen. If MTG were to suddenly go out of style next year you'll have regretted your decision to keep Mox anyway. At some point if you aren't simply a collector you have to cash in.
April 16, 2016 4:45 p.m.
TheHelvault, there will be no reserved list cards in Eternal Masters, so the Tundra won't see a reprint.
April 16, 2016 4:47 p.m.
If you're going to trade a power nine, it had sure as hell NOT be for cards off the reserve list. And frankly, if you need modern or legacy cards, wait til eternal masters is spoiled so you don't immediately lose value of you DO trade for cards off the list.

I would move it if you want all that's being offered. But that's me.

I second the notion of only moving it for things like a Mishra's Workshop or Candelabra, etc.
Really though, hang onto it. Save it for when you might need to cash in the chips for a house/car downpayment, kid, medical emergency, etc.

I like to look at it from a more practical stance. When it all boils down, it's all just a piece of cardboard. If you are going to have an expensive piece of cardboard, I would at least use it. To me, having multiple, cards you are going to use are better than one you have just for the sake of having it. But that's just my opinion and peop,e will tell me I'm wrong.

I agree with Jay and GearNoir, if you're actually going to use all the cards offered, I'd trade in a heartbeat. Power 9 are cool, but as a person who plays the game and doesn't collect, I'd much rather have that much money in cards I'll use than in one card I can't play.
If you're a collector, then do what you wish.
April 16, 2016 6:15 p.m.
Cards you need are infinitely better than some P9 card you have no use for. Who cares if it rises another one or two hundred in the next few years? Unless you have some grand scheme to make a powered cube, collect the power 9, or play something ridiculous, it's better to have things that you actually need.
April 16, 2016 6:40 p.m.
Cards are only worth what you can actually trade or sell or use them for.
If you had the notion to play in a vintage group that didn't allow the 10 proxies, I would keep it. I would also keep it if you enjoy speculating or collecting. Otherwise, if you can use the cards offered now and their current value is more in your favor, I would cash it in if it were me.

I would save up some more and just buy non-foil versions of those cards you need. That's my two-cents.

I do collect sealed product, I think I'll just put it with that stuff and hold on to it for a while. Thanks for all the input

I'd decline on that trade, because a good part of what you're getting seems awful. Nobody wants foil 7th edition painlands, and I don't think that Expeditions are that popular. If I were you, I'd much rather trade a Mox for, say... Tarmogoyfs, revised duals, more Zendikar/Khans fetches, etc.
April 16, 2016 11:31 p.m.
I mean, I like 7th foils but I guess that's because I do collect a little and good ones can be ridiculously hard to come by. When I was asking people I know I got the impression that I'm one of the only people I know that likes them. I do agree with you though, maybe not the goyfs for me but I get the point. I guess if I was ever going to trade it then I'd probly aim for duals.. or maybe even try to snag an alpha or beta dual? Who knows but I think that I am just going to put it away for now.

What condition is the Mox Pearl in? That might be a deciding factor.

DO NOT DO IT! THEY ARE NOT WORTH NEARLY AS MUCH!
April 17, 2016 7:07 a.m.
I'd hold off on the trade. Unless said person was offering equivalent-to-above market price value in cards, I wouldn't do it. The pain lands, although cool, are kinda laughable since they've been reprinted so many times. The expeditions are cool but I doubt they'll hold as much value as a power nine artifact, mind you. Wait for something better.

Do not involve standard legal cards in a trade for any P9, you'll lose money on rotation.
April 18, 2016 9:11 a.m.
Yea, I was just going to put it away but all of a sudden I have it involved in a deal for an Ancestral Recall.. keeping my fingers crossed that it works out but if not then I'm planning on holding on to it to sell it later or trade it for something good.

Ooh, Panda213... for an Ancestral Recall? Tell me more!
April 18, 2016 10:50 a.m.
KillDatBUG looks like it's probly not going to happen now. As much as that would suck the worst case scenario is that I walk away with the mox

You know, now that I think about it... I almost want to make an offer for that thing. Sure, it'd probably cost me most of my collection, but.. Yolo, right?
1 Bribery F
1 Mana Reflection (MP)
1 Mox Diamond (HP-Damaged)
1 Scroll Rack (CMA)
1 Land Tax
That's about... $950, give or take? I know that some of it is Commander stuff, but most of this consists of Modern/Legacy staples.
